Turn A/C Off When Knob Turned to Max...

Is there anyway to just press the A/C button turning it off when the temp knob is turned to max? Ie. If you want the air to blow cold with the A/C off. I hate having to press the button and having to turn the knob 1 notch from Max if I want cool air to blow with the A/C off.

Has anyone figured out how to mod this?

Yes, really. I have never had a car that required you to increase the temp if you want to turn the A/C compressor off. Seems like they would just let you turn it off and be done with it.

 

To answer your question-No. Just remember this one goes to eleven. The coldest setting of the knob is A/C. The next coldest vent setting without A/C is the next notch up. It's not as cold as A/C so it can't really be the coldest.

 

I agree. There are sone strange combinations of settings on these trucks that make things unnecessarily complicated. All the different 4x4 settings are another classic example.

I love my 2006 more and more. Unless I have the defrost on I can turn the A/C on and off regardless of temp settings. I'm with you guys, why did they over-complicate the damn thing......

 

Wait, i am confused. I can have my temp knob at any position and still have the AC an or off?

The complaint issued by the OP addresses the fact that when you turn the temp knob to its coldest setting the A/C automatically comes on and to disable the A/C the knob has to be turned 1 notch warmer and then the button must be depressed.

 

The only thing that extra notch does is turn the A/C on and change it to recirc. If you don't want the A/C, don't turn it past the notch. It's not like the blend door is moving an farther when you go past the detent. It's there to make things easier.

 

Yeah, I just wish we had a mod to untie those two. Sometimes it will get too cold and I wish we could just press the button to turn the A/C off.

A lot of our mods are for convenience....I don't think it has much to do with trying to get less exercise.

You should turn your back-up camera off and just walk around to the back of your truck every time you put it in reverse since you need more exercise.

It does on my 2010.

 

Mine turns on AC and goes to Recirc when I turn to Max AC. When I turn back off the detent the Recirc turns off.

This has been normal in many vehicles for years. MAX AC is for hitting the lowest internal temperature the system can produce under current conditions. That is always done with the vehicle recirculating previously cooled air. Since you say it gets too cold in the truck, I guess it works like it is SUPPOSED to.

I wish people would understand where these complex control systems actually come from. They come from vehicles being sold to people that do not take the time to read and understand how vehicle systems work. Vehicles come in for complaints of poor AC performance. The customer puts the vehicle on the coldest setting but fails to place the fresh air door on recirculate. The customer states that it takes too long to defog or defrost. They do not know to turn the AC on under some conditions to help dehumidify the air for faster results. Viola! Make that linked then add sensors to tell when the temp and humidity requires AC. HMMMMM next they come in and complain that on really hot days, when they get in the car it takes FOREVER to cool the interior down. They think that MAX AC is ALWAYS the best choice for maximum cooling. That is not correct. You can only lower the temperature of air so much on each pass by the evaporator. Under conditions where the outside air is actually COOLER than what has been baked to very high temps inside the vehicle, you will actually cool the interior FASTER by using fresh air first and then switching to recirculation.

If people could actually watch data and reactions of some of the FULLY automatic systems out there they would be surprised by how much goes into them. Some of these systems have more zones, inputs and controls than even a very modern house and they are about the size of a bathroom inside.

Bottom line, they work and they work well. If your truck is getting too cold inside, turn up the temperature. That works too.

 

I've never paid this much attention to my AC.

In the winter my knob is all the way red and I just turn the system on and off as I'm too hot/cold. In the summer it's just the opposite... all the way cold w/ the A/C button on and I turn it off and on as necessary (though, it stays on most of the time b/c it's hotter than hell down here in the summer).

I'm gonna play with mine and see how this works... I vote just leaving your knob at the next-to-coldest setting and not worrying about whether it could be a touch-colder when the a/c is on.

EDIT: Actually, in the winter, once the truck is warmed up, just the air flowing through the truck and heating up w/ the engine is enough so I normally don't even have to turn the system on. Just leave the knob on hot and let air flow do the rest.
