Hey everyone! I've been lurking for a long time but on Tuesday I started the transfer process of my first ever Tacoma! 2015 Double Cab Sport. Here's the kicker, it's in Georgia, I'm in Ohio. I basically decided I wanted it based off the fact I've wanted a Tacoma for many years and the way it looks. It's advertised as having the TRD package, Sport package, SR5 package, and Convenience package. I was hoping someone could tell me if the TRD package is anything other then the decals, wheels, and the TRD on the grill? Or if it's actually the TRD package because it doesn't have RR differential button by the steering wheel, based off my research it could mean it doesn't have TRD package at all. Any help at all here would be greatly appreciated.

I'm committed to buying it and I definitely still want it, I just want to know what all I'm getting mechanically, not just aesthetically. Thank you!!

Also, please forgive my naivety. I thought I knew a decent amount about the trims and packages, but I know now from my research I knew very little.

It has a hood scoop so it probably is indeed a TRD Sport. It is possible they swapped hoods with someone but unlikely. A Sport would not have the differential button because the Sports do not have a rear locking differential, only the TRD Off Roads have that. The TRD sport comes with a stiffer suspension, and appearances such as color matched fenders and such.

Yeah I know the hood scoop part, what I'm wondering is if they'd slap on the fancy tires and all of the "TRD" stuff like on the grill and the Toyota Racing Development under the "Sport", that's not normally there is it? So maybe there are upgraded shocks? I can't tell from the pictures if it's a Cat-Back exhaust system or not. Basically, do they ever put all of the extra "TRD" stuff on a truck for purely aesthetic reasons? Thanks for your reply!

    This might help a little.

Not 'exactly' what you want, but a great start.

You'll see that all the time with the TRD PRO. They'll put all the PRO accessories on there and then mark up the price. I can tell you that TRD badge on the grill is not an OEM item. Neither are the wheels, those are meant to be on a 4Runner. Your best bet is to see if you can get a copy of the Monroney sticker to verify factory packages.

However its rare to see a used car dealership put aesthetics on just to mark up the price. Certainly not a CarMax. I'm pretty sure it is indeed a sport. Between the color match fenders, color match bumpers and hood scoop, its a pretty safe bet that it is a factory TRD Sport. The TRD emblem on the grill and the TRD wheels were probably put on from the previous owners which is a plus for you because those wheels are very desirable.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. That it's a factory Sport with some aesthetic add-ons. I'm not complaining, I think it looks badass. I was just wondering from a mechanical standpoint with all the added "packages", if there were anything extra apart from the stock Sport build.

stiffer suspension (tuned for less body roll while cornering) The 2nd gen TRD Sport also has a larger rear differential from the Off Road. Which is peculiar because its opposite for the 3rd gen.

It's a bigger and tougher so less chance of it shattering under heavy load.
