Remember, all fan bases have "those fans". Also, with Bama's recent success, our fan base has grown exponentially with the a typical band wagoners. Trust me when I say that the majority of "true" Bama fans are your 2nd encounter. I, myself, have to avoid many of the other kinda of Bama fans strictly because I would prolly end up in jail if I was around them for a significant period of time. Realistic Bama fans are hard to come by these days because it seems like every Bama fan lately thinks if we don't win a Natty, we should fire Saban and act like dicks! If you ever came down to Bama and hung out with my type of people, you would be treated like one of our own and your experience would be awesome.....except with the fact that your team would lose:boink::anonymous: HAHA

I've never met the first kind you met, but as a Bama fan I wouldn't get treated like that by them anyway. I believe that many more are in the second group, but I surely won't try to tell you that we don't have any in the first. I hope you encounter more decent Bama fans and fewer Bammers going forward!

Was the 1st encounter pre Saban? During the down years? Then the 2nd encounter being after returning to being relevant? That might explain it. :D

Here's my take on your question as i too have seen two faces to the tide nation.
It was at the 1973 New Years eve Sugar Bowl, which made ND national champs that year. I was a young freshman still wet behind the ears. Before gametime Bear Bryant and his minions were swarming to chants of "Roll Tide roll!" and man for them it was pure yuletide!
After the game there was this unfortunate transformation, while they listened to us: "roll tide roll... around the bowl and down the hole!"
I certainly remember a distinct difference in the Bama fans before and after that New Year's night. I will never forget it... nor do i expect to ever see them quite like that again.

My team beat Bama the last time they met

I like to think they're mostly the second type

    Oddly no

The first encounter was in 2008 in Atlanta at the Chic Fil A kickoff game that Saban and Bama throttled Clemson 35-10....it was awful sitting in the stands and very poor experience with the fan base

Second encounter was in Tampa in January and Clemson beat Alabama 35-31 and the fans were fantastic before and after the game

I wanted to comment earlier but didn't have time. There was some talk about bandwagon fans and wanted to chime in. Idk if it's GA or all over but we have bandwagons here big time. Back when Tebow played and UF won the championship I suddenly noticed way more Florida tags, and etc everywhere. Then they faded as did the gear around here. Then Bama rose as did the Bama stuff. Now granted we do have a lot of Bama fans here, I know, but it definitely increased. Then it was Auburn after Cam played his one year and then the AU stuff faded a bit but we have always for whatever reason had a lot of AU fans here. Now to current day, I rarely ever saw any Clemson around here. Now guess what it see all the time now? I know a lot of that did come from the area and people following Deshaun and that's understandable to pull for your local kid, but still, I'm a UGA fan. I can still wish a kid well and stand behind my team. Hell, Conner Shaw played for my step-daughters high school and I still kinda pulled for him, just not so that it would hurt my Dawgs.

Anyway I'm just venting I guess. I just get sick of bandwagons. Nothing against Clemson but it just burns me up how so many here that were Dawg fans now sport Orange and Purple. Idk any personally but have heard of people anyway and with seeing so much Clemson gear around now I can believe it. I know UGA should've recruited him better/harder and understand that Richt wanted a pro style qb but that's no reason to bail on your team. Would've been fun to see what would've happened if Watson had played here. Anyway I'll get off my soapbox and back to rooting for some Hoosier Football for the night.
