I really like the titanium handles, the Bowie does feel great in your hands, it's a super comfortable knife to use. It carries a bit better in my pocket too, than the PM2, I just like the blade design of the Pm2 a lot better than the Bowie.

Would any of you recommend the Griptilian as my first benchmade? Thinking of picking up the 20CV version. Or suggest a ZT knife. I like my blades from 3.5" - 4".

I carry a mini griptilian daily. Everyone gets loopy on the metals. If bench made puts their name on it then it is solid. For the first one buy the size that you like. The regular griptilian was too big for EDC IMO. The hardest thing about benchmade is getting over the plastic feel of the grips. They are a great knife. I still keep my Kershaw leek for bad jobs. It has been a warrior as well. Beware the knock-offs. There are lots of counterfeit makers out there.

If I was buying a benchmade, it would be a 940-1, or something in the 940/943 series. 940-1 has a blade length of 3.4". I've never owned one, but have a couple buddies that have them, they are great knifes.

As far as steels go, harder steels will hold edges longer, but are a lot more work to sharpen. I think S30V is hard to beat, as a steel that's a great compromise for not being too hard, and not being something that dulls super fast. It's easy to keep sharp.

I usually rock my Leatherman Wave. It's got everything I need for work and whatever else life throws at me. I also carry my Benchmade Griptillian 556. What a wonderful knife that is.

I really just liked the gray g10 with blue liners lol. I don't mind carrying larger knives as an edc. I sometimes daily the Military. My tiny hands make it look bigger. What do the benchmades feel like? When I stepped over from kershaws to spyderco I thought they were overly light.

So so on the CF scales but overall it seems nifty.

    http://www.bladehq.com/item--Zero-Tolerance-0804CF-Flipper-Knife--34413

    I'll take a look.

I know all about the tougher steels and what downsides come with them. More brittle, difficult to sharpen, etc.

custom hawk bill, gift from my daughter. Her friend in NC makes a lot of custom knives. I use this one mainly for pruning grape vines.

Mora carbon steel fixed blades... cheap and functional. Honestly, these get the most use of any of my knives.

Do Benchmades go on sale? Been wanting one and was hoping to pick it up during a possible Labor Day sale. If so, anyone know of any websites that are throwing out some discounts? I saw cabelas has a sale but with the discount and me paying tax, it's not worth it.

Very rare to see them on sale. You have to catch a retailer with a blanket "25% off everything" and hope that they left them out of the exclusions. My mini grip came from the bargain cave at cabelas for $50.... I think it was returned. Probably after an angry wife found the receipt LOL! Spyderco sometimes discounts a left over from a custom run. Either way, like all things of high quality it is pay to play. I never did find a half off tacoma and had to pay the man... Supply and demand for quality!

They started a Labor Day sale yesterday, but they only included three Benchmades unfortunately. That is the company I was hoping for, but no luck. I'll keep waiting and hoping for the stars to align to save a little bit.

    Definitely.
I've carried a Mini Grip on my right pocket for maybe close to 10 years. In that same I've been through 3+ Swiss Army Knives in the left pocket. My Grip is the coated D2 version that was available through Cabelas. Great knife. Perfect size. Unbeatable warranty and service. I abuse it regularly, run it over a ceramic stone and strop with green compound occasionally, and abuse it some more. Every two years or so I'll send it back to Benchmade with $5 for their LifeSharp service. It comes back very sharp, very clean, with all the screws tightened, and the last time, even had a new pocket clip. The coating is worn, the edge is currently chipped (from me prying a picture hanger from a plaster wall), but it locks-up tight and carries well. I wish it was orange instead of OD green, and all the "new" steels are certainly appealing; however, this knife is with me anytime I'm not at school and I cannot foresee getting rid of or retiring it...
