Usually a structural item. We fill 2-4 cells each side of openings for windows and doors and every 3rd or 4th cell for the vertical rebar in an section of wall that has no openings. I dont think I have ever heard of not filling ANY cells.

    Interesting.

Edit: And for a stem wall that will hold a slab we fill every cell.

Lunch break....started at 9:00. Out with the old and in with the new! Not bad for working solo. After lunch I'll start replacing/weaving the shakes.

Called it quits at 4:00. Thought I had enough shakes, but all those cuts around the windows & corners quickly ate into my supply. Had to run to the lumber yard that sells them as they closed at 5:00 and are closed on Sat & Sun (I find that odd). Was hoping to have made more progress, but again, those all those cuts take some time. I'll easily wrap it up tomorrow and get a coat of paint on in time for the rain (Harvey remnants) that we're getting Sunday.

All those mixed colors I got from a neighbor when they moved. I'm saving the batch that I pre-painted for around the window.

For now it's Beer O'Clock!

Got all our trims on and almost all the channel siding on the kitchen end walls

Should be done all the channel as well as the 2x6 Fir t&g cascade and the 1x6 clear cedar inlay panel next week , then we start the inside finishing

All buttoned up on the exterior...wrapped up around noon. Coat of paint going on the shakes & rake board on later today once sun gets behind some trees. I'll finish the interior next weekend or after work one day next week.

Ok need some temp repair advise.

Both wooden garage opener panels not the single door kind. Are breaking by the curved arm. Been brai storming and thinking of using some 3/4 by 3 inch wood approx by 1.5 feet long. Using on inside of door. Will this work a temp repair or do you have a better idea?

Success!! May have to recruit some help for the next two windows. Lots of up & down the ladder measuring, cutting & fitting (repeat at times) for every course around the windows. Two day project for sure.

It's been crazy hot this week (111-106 F) so it has been hard to get much done. Top that with the La Tuna fire that has choked us out with smoke the last couple of days. Despite that I managed to get the top of the wall finished minus the 45 degree portion at the top right of the picture. It will be pretty easy. It is 22.5 degree and 67.6 degree cuts but they are all the same.

I did not find any edge molding that I liked so I am making my own. I cut, routed and stained the pieces. Now I just need to glue them together. I bought some pre-made for the inside corners but I think I will make them as well. I am forming them along a 2 x 6. The wood is 1/4" x 2" so it likes to warp. I have many clamps so I can get the joints as perfect as possible.
