Class action regarding failed head gaskets 2005-06 Tacomas & 2004-06 4Runners, would you help?

Maybe do a poll of TW and ask the following: year (date of mfg for 2005/2006), headgasket leak (yes/no)

Then you take all the data and make some charts.

Since TW is only a small sample size of the Tacoma population this would only represent a small, yet awesome, sampling of the total Tacoma population.

We may find out that the head gasket problem wasn't really that widespread, or maybe we didn't realize how prevelant it is...but without a doubt we would probably get a lot of likes from @ChadsPride!

As the owner of a 2006, I'm curious.

 

The sludge lawsuit started in Louisiana because one guy had enough. It took 3,400 complaints for Toyota to cover everyone. That is fact. Why can't I be that guy? I am asking for TW members to reach out to your groups.

That is the most ignorant statement ever. You can hire an attorney. The key word is "hire" not get an attorney on consignment that will agree to take a case over $5,000 for free! I hired an attorney! I pay the bill. Win or lose he gets paid. The whole point is, no matter what, I am paying the bill. I am trying to help others.

 

This thread is interesting. If anyone is compiling numbers it appears my cylinder head has now gone twice in a 2006 4 cylinder automatic. The first time was under warranty this time not so much.

 

This is for the 4L V6.

 

2005 bought new. Your story sounds just like mine...I took it in 2 or 3 times complaining that coolant would not not return from overflow.---no issues. I also had #6 coil go bad and they said no concerns. This started at about 5-6 year mark. It finally started overheating after a long road trip...I took it in and told them what it was...they then said yup you are right. Also told me I needed brakes(I did not)! I had the dealer do they job, as it seemed like their was an apparent issue and figured it would be easier to get money back if they issued a recall. Dealer did do an excellent job---thanks Camelback Toyota.

I had an 89 3.0L truck and after 5 years or so I took it in for something and said hey we have a recall on the head gaskets...we will fix it. I was not aware of the issue and they fixed it no questions asked.

I am not as warm and fuzzy as I was about trucks, but even so this truck has been very good minus clock spring(mine wasnt part of recall, but it was bad!) and head gasket. believe that recall came out after 5 years also. Tough to buy anything else, but the 16s Tacos have me looking at the 4runner. I am not really into sue happy people, but I am into doing the right thing(whatever that is for whoever).

 

over 100,000 miles and 10 years. When you buy the truck its a 36,000 miles bumper to bumper and a 60,000 mile power train.

 

Then why did Toyota fix my head gasket on the 89 3.0 back in the day, as it was out of warranty? I didn't even ask about it!

 

My 06 4.0 popped a head gasket somewhere around 235-238k.

 

So something happened 27 years ago and you want to bring it up now Lol. No manufacturer has a warranty thats more than 100,000 on its power train.
When you bought the truck you knew what the warranty was. I feel for guys with problems but there are no lifetime warranties

Maybe this will help...I had my leaf springs replaced last year at about 180k and 11 yrs. Probably because enough people had issues and Toyota did the right thing. Also I am not asking for anything, just helping a fellow member with some info-thanks

 

LN13 That very unusual, Im glad you got fixed for free. These manufacturers try to do as little as possible to fix anything they aren't forced to.
I have a guy I hunt with who had a gmc truck with 38,000 miles on it and the engine blew. gmc wouldn't honor the warranty..........that sucks....

Guess who was a service writer at a Toyota dealership in Jefferson Parish, LA and saw alot of sludged vehicles. I'm going to have to read the article and see if I happened to have met this guy or not.

What he means is... get an attorney to take the case on consignment!

I HIRED an attorney. Friday, I mailed tge check for attorney fees for the month of July. $2,363.

I am well over $30,000 in right now. My lawyer tries to work with me when he can, when I'm completely out of money, but I still have to pay.

Thats just FYI... to take a stand... it WILL brake you! But just like the other hard headed Cajun, sometimes you just have to take a stand for yourself and everyone else.

I know most of you guys think I am crazy for doing this, but... I'm a Cajun!

I can tell you, Meckstroth prob spent over $100,000 to get everyones defective engines fixed. My 3.0 failed at a little over 40,000 miles. I did not even follow the maint. schedule! All maint. was done thousands of miles ahead of schedule!

$30k in attorney fees for a truck worth what $10-15k? Not sure I follow the reasoning behind it but hope you are happy with the outcome.

 

Early '00s 4 cyl. Camry's had a bad designed couple of headbolts. Owners were just told how to fix it.
