Swapped radiators yesterday on the Nova.
Old crusty one i installed in 1980 reached the end of it's life.
Replaced it with an aluminum unit I got from Summit.
Took the Nova to work today, granted it's cool out, but she didn't go over 180 degrees.
Took it for a spin around the block after I installed the new radiator and the car wouldn't shift out of first. I said, WTF, what does the radiator have to do with the tranny?

Ended up being a vacuum hose going to the tranny modulator. I knocked it off when I was topping off the tranny fluid.:amen:

    old and crusty...

    They definitely keep things cool!
I'm running a flex fan as well as an extra electric fan with a manual switch. Don't even think I'll need that now.
The old radiator was a 3 core. The new is a 2 core....but the tubes are 1 inch. Plenty of flow.
It's about half the weight of the old brass one.

I know our front subframes are somewhat similar was it a direct fit or did you have to modify the lower radiator mount ?? . I've heard on 2nd gen Camaros you've got to modify the lower mount to get an aftermarket aluminum radiator to fit correctly

Mine was a direct fit. Sits in the lower tray and held in by the top support.
My factory fan shroud even fit with some very minor trimming.

The only concern I've got over aluminium radiators is electrolysis . my friend has had 2 well known mfg aluminum radiators fail from this and end up leaking like crazy

Probably better weather. You still run the risk of bursting into flames out there now.

You just get some stuff to put in the radiator. We use it in trucks.

Yep. Seen it. Last December I had to go to the airport to pick up my son. It was just after 0200-ish and, not only had traffic, there were cops, tow trucks and all kinds general chaos and fuckery going on. The civil engineer at our state office was trying to get me to go there for training but my boss and my insistence that I want no part of it finally shut him up.

I hate Phx, I hate flag, Hell, I hate driving in town here, I always try to take the back roads. The only place I like is out on the dirt roads and trails.

That's another perk of my job. I get to go out there in my own domain and not have to deal with very many people.
