I've got my dealer all riled up about the Toyota TSB dealing with the rear springs. The dealer is trying his hardest to talk me out of it saying that the ride will be so harsh and that it will feel like a lumber wagon. They told me that they stuck 500 lbs in the back of the truck and still had an inch before it would hit the bump stops. I kindly pointed out that if I had 500 lbs in the back, driving 40 mph and hit a bump, that with only an inch, it would bottom out....and that is with only half of the published load you can put in the back.

He said he would look into this and would get back with me. My question is, how harsh a ride will it really be? Like most people, the truck is empty and unloaded most of the time. Occasionally I will get 300-600 lbs in the back and a couple of times a year I will haul my car trailer with my 1953 M38a1 Jeep around. Are the new springs worth it? Based on what people are saying on these forums, I'm thinking that new springs will be acceptable.

Someone either talk me into it, or talk me out of it. I can live with it the way it is now for my daily driver. But I do use it as a truck fairly often.

    Thanks for any advice.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Tell your dealer to go F*** himself. Yes they are worth it. You are entitled to the TSB work. It is not their call since you are within the requirements of the TSB. It is your call. If you are going to be haulling what you stated in your post then I would get the leafs. DO NOT LET THEM TALK YOU OUT OF IT.

I had the TSB done to my 2009,( have a '10 now w/o TSB Leafs) and the ride was a little stiffer than stock as everyone hear will agree. however, if you are planning to get 5100 rear shocks or another aftermarket shock that is slightly bigger or longer, the truck will ride much better from what I hear. With a load in the truck the handles much better with the TSB springs. im going with an AAL and 5100's rear shocks this time and not dealing with the hassles of the dealer. ive also heard the shock extenders that Toytec sells helps with the thump! you get when you hit a bump with the TSB.

    None yet! It's new!
Good grief. The TSB has been done to my '09 and it still feels like a freakin' lincoln town car. Our tacomas do not feel even remotely like trucks. They're like cars with a pickup bed.

Don't get me wrong. I love every 1st and 2nd gen I've had, but they're not real trucks compared to REAL trucks. They ride soft and they do generally what they're designed for. Get the springs done and be happy.

That is a huge bunch of BULL! I had them change mine and it is a world of positive difference. My truck handles way better and carry's a load much more stable than before. I would tell anyone with the choice to get it done. Unless you really like the soft mushy ride that make the truck body roll to much in curves, etc.
Tell'em you'll take the truck ride and get it fixed. Its a truck anyway, right?
