Hell, sometimes you don't even have to wait. My very first deer jumped the string and I gave it a nice tattoo on the back, that's called fast learning, LOL

Thank you all for the advice. I'll try to absorb all I can but I'm sure I'll have more questions.

You're welcome, You must have missed my other question, have you determined whether you're left-handed or right-handed yet? (Which eye is dominant)

That is a valid point. My Bear bow is right handed, I assumed you were, but you should double check.

Not that it necessarily means that your dominant eye is the side you should be shooting from because there are those out there that actually shoot from there opposing eye for whatever personal reason they choose, some of them are actually competitive shooter's that do that. But I guess for most of us, it's just a good standard practice

Heck, when I had to convert to left handed bow shooting I also got to adopt my much weaker eye into the game, now I have a Lens like a pair of glasses in my Peepsight called a visualizer so that I can see my pins.

Be careful, because there are also lenses for this set up called clarifiers which have to be used in conjunction with a magnified pin sight

See, you're already one step closer to being ready to shoot! Have you established a draw length and draw weight you would like to be at?

I just know that from being around firearms.
I have no clue on draw length or weight. We have a local archery shop that I was going to swing by and talk to some folks. I was there years ago but quickly ran away when I saw some prices.

If there's one thing I learned and got out of knowledge wise when I got into Bows is that there is an enormous amount of opinion sold in this business. So, many choices just have to be your own common sense once you have gotten past these first three basics of bow setup!

Lol, yeah, they can get very stupid on prices. But yes that would be a very good idea to do. That way you can make a decision on how you will release your arrow because that makes a difference on your draw length, and yes, you will probably adjust your draw length as you develop along and fine tune yourself

I look and listen to whats goin on around me. Deer are ninja's! They move through the woods without making much noise. even in the fall when the leaves are down. you'll miss deer and a possible travel route if your looking at your phone. If you pay attention to whats goin on around you, you will notice changes in the behavior of the animals usually means something else is near by.

 I check trail cam pics when its still dark, and I don't hear anything moving. Some times I'll close my eye's and just listen to what is going on and see if I can tell what animal is making the noise. A big part of hunting and fishing is getting away from all the tech and enjoying nature (another dad comment) hahahahaha
