Okay so just as I'm about to order my lift my taco decides to act up:rain: so Wednesday noticed that the taco was spitting black fumes from the exhaust and the master warning light turnes on(exclusively when the truck would sit for a while and start up but would turn off about 30 seconds later after the truck warmed up a bit) so decided to take it in and get it inspected along with getting my maintenance done as it was about to hit 5000 miles. I explained to the tech what the issue was and he said that they would look into it. A hour goes by and I get a call saying that the tech was unable to see exactly what fumes the truck was releasing that they went ahead and took care of the maintenance but, that if it was possible for me to leave the truck overnight so that they could see if the issue is reoccurring. So i find a ride to work from he dealership and leave the taco overnight as they advised. Fast forward to Thursday morning I get a call from the tech saying that no light would come on and that no abnormal fumes were being seen except for the normal "condensation" after letting it sit overnight and starting her up. I'm scratching my head at this point because condensation would produce white smoke? Unfortunately I couldn't make it in that morning to pick my vehicle so that evening after work I headed to the dealership in hope to possibly show the tech that the truck indeed was fuming black. I arrive at the dealership and the tech I had been speaking to is gone for the day. At that point I'm stuck taking to a tech that has no clue what was going in and after briefly explaining what the issue was he stops me and takes a look at the report/receipt they had gave me. I explained that if I was possible for me to go to the back and start the truck myself to see if the issue has been resolved since it seems to happen exclusive after the vehicle has been sitting for a while(which it had been all day) By this time another tech has brought the truck up ruining my chance of seeing the truck starting up and potentially showing the dealer that the truck is indeed spitting black fumes. I explained to the tech how the truck is expelling the fumes and he insisted that that was normal for a new truck to do that and that it was again "condensation"!? Finally I decided to just take the truck home where I'll have to return Monday to talk to the tech that original helping me. So my question is is anybody having this problem? I almost didn't notice this as the master warning light turned off after about 30 seconds or so. Maybe I just got a bad truck/part or bad gas but I thought I'd ask and maybe some of you have had this issue. Here's a video of the black fumes I just took today(9/1/17) I plan on showing the dealer his and hopefully getting some insight about the issue Monday.

Let me make sure I have this clear, you start your cold truck and rev it like that in the video to get it to spit black? Then the warning light comes on?

Some mods from the last 24 hours. You know it's bad when you get up earlier to do some work on your truck than you do for work.

Sadly no the smoke happens regardless of the rev. Rev was more for video purposes to enhance the amount of black fumes and shorten the video. It usually happens with any acceleration of the truck but only until the engine has warmed up a bit, so say the truck has been sitting overnight and I start it up in the morning the trucks light comes on like this picture below but only for about 20-30 secs or so or until the engine warms up a bit. The smoke however happens with any acceleration after that for the next 5-10 minutes of driving or so then usually lightens up or stops completely after that.:help:

Black smoke usually means you're running a little rich, truck may be taking longer than normal to get fuel mixture right; might be indicative of a failing cat, O2 sensor or CPS.

I'm curious, what octane level do you usually run and do you always buy gas from the same place? Is it name brand or no name from some place like Costco or 7-11?

I was thinking the same thing about the gas usually I just but regular unleaded gas(87 octane) from my local shell or once in a blue moon a Valero. Was thinking it was maybe the gas and thought about trying out plus gas with a higher octane level?

mine...i just bought it new two weeks ago. opted not to go 4x4 as i don't plan to do any serious offroading in a new truck- just trails and low key offroad stuff. I am in love with her. Sandy and I are in our honeymoon phase....she hasn't become a scandalous Triflin' bitch yet....i'm hoping for a long lasting loving relationship.
the only thing ive done so far is put a bunch of stickers in my back window, patches on the ceiling, and swapped out the ugly stock 17" rims it came with for another guys new 16" anthracite honey combs....i love these wheels. I might be an odd cod for liking them, but i do. I also have never run rims larger than 16" on a truck with all terrain tires. I plan to run BF Goodrich all terrain T/A KO2's LT265/70R16 on it soon.

Wouldn't hurt. Is this a recent development or something that's been happening for awhile now?
