Overall, are you satisfied with your purchase of a 3rd generation Tacoma? With all the threads on shifting issues, irregular sounds, and complaints, it sounds like this generation is having some growing pains. What is your overall satisfaction rating of your recent purchase.

I was satisfied with my first two Toyota trucks.

Am just as satisfied with my 2017 SR purchase.

After I filled the tranny/front diff/rear diff/ and greased the zerks, and torqued the "U" bolts.... I love this freakin' truck...!! If only Toyota would have done this BEFORE selling the truck to me, It would have gave me more confidence... BUT... hey, It's MY truck, and I'll look after it if they are that incapable of maintaining my truck...!!

Still a great truck...!! YOU have to take control here and look after it yourself.... they do NOT give a shit about YOUR truck...!

I agree. Four 2nd gens including a Baja beginning in 1998, and my 2017 TRD OR is my favorite. It's the first AT truck I've ever owned (Two jeeps, a Datsun PU, and 5 Toyota trucks).

My first Tacoma! TRD Sport, V6, AT, - It's not perfect but I like it a hell of a lot more than the Camry I had before this truck and I love driving it! Hope it lasts me a long time and won't be the lemon all the complainers on here say it is!

Yep your in the world! But I have not one complaint with my 17. I know a few others who have gen3's and there totally happy . I have yet to meet a gen3 owner in person who has a complaint.

    I've also had two 4runners :)

Off topic but used to think they were the same in regards to offroad capability (built on the same frame should be the same right?), truth is Tacoma is so much better. Really exemplified when I went wheeling on a familiar trail with my buddy who was in his 4runner TRD Pro. He kept three wheeling over places where I still had all four wheels firmly planted. The 4Runners just don't have the flex our Tacomas have.

    I've seen a lot of way capable 4runners .

I have as well and I still love and highly recommend them, it was just surprising to me the difference in out of the box capability as I had always assumed they were equally capable... they're not.

If you mod a 4runner and a Tacoma with equal mods the Tacoma will still be more capable. Having the bed detached from the cab is I think the key factor to the Tacoma's ability to twist more, don't see how you can mod a 4runner to do that. Its just something I never considered even after owning 4 Tacomas and 2 4runners AND selling Toyota's for years, I feel like I should've realized this years ago lol

I've had a Hilux, three first gens, one second gen, and now a third gen. The third gen is to me much more enjoyable to drive.

But to my point : are you and your friend equal off road ?
Look my JKU is far superior to either of my tacos. The 3rd gen in fairness still has stock suspension :).

But I wonder if you were to drive the taco over a trail, then drive a like equipped 4Runner over same trail, would you maybe have a different opinion?
