I never paid attention to the Ridgeline, but since it seems such a focus here, I looked at it on the Honda website. While someone said here that "most of the Tacoma owners here would be happy with a Ridgeline" (paraphrase), I certainly wouldn't. While AWD is great in my wife's Subaru in the snow on the road, the Rideline's AWD without low range (there's no mention of a transfer case), would not work for me as a field archaeologist. Also, the rear leaf-spring suspension on the Tacoma is generally superior to rear coil suspension although they have improved of late. The real deal breaker is the unibody suspension. Remember the old Volkswagen bugs with unibody suspension that when rusted would actually break in two? It's not a dedicated 4X4, but I could see that it would be as useful as a Subaru. That's my $.02.

 

I just took a quick 36 mile drive, saw 4 Rangers - 3 2nd Gen Tacos - 2 S-10s, and (2 Dakotas but those were in driveways). Not really scientific but is probably similar results elsewhere too.

 

basically there are more pre 2011 Toyota trucks running on the road than there are any other mid size truck, also I don't believe your story, you blew the story by telling me that a 36 mile drive is a quick ride, a quick drive is anything less than 5 miles that's how I know its BS

 

Its not a story, was a quick run for me because it was 56 minutes round trip, I'm rural and anything under an hour is quick

Dude I have no idea what your issue is, honestly anything under an hour is quick to me, the closest gas station to me is a 20 minute drive so it's a good 45 minute trip on a nice day just for gas. Why in the hell would I be anti Toyota, I'm on my 4th Tacoma now.

All this talk about time had me thinking, a trip to town to go to Walmart and back takes about 3 hours, it's no wonder I don't like going there, lol.

 

A trip to Walmart is 10 minutes for me and drive to work is 30 minutes. I don't live in a urban area but not the country either.
At least you have a lot of fun driving your vehicles since you spend so much time in them.

There are advantages and disadvantages to where each of us live, travel time to go places is a certain disadvantage for me as is reliability of electricity, purchased a generator to help with that issue though.

 

It is a real truck.

 

Here we are kinda rural so it is mostly 1/2, 3/4, 1 Ton trucks...mostly diesels running around. There are some Tacomas but not many, actually see quite a few Ridgelines too, one even has a slide in camper on it.

I feel like a minority driving a Tacoma here.

 

Yeah same here, Full Size trucks are by far the majority, many Farms and whatnot around here, but there still a few midsize trucks running around too. There are also tons of 4 Wheelers running up and down the street pretty much 24 - 7.

 

We are in a fairly large AG area here in Idaho, some of the farms do use Tacomas, but mainly the regular cab 2WD 5 luggers used for checking irrigation, running parts, and getting operators to the tractors out in the fields. Oh yeah, ATV's everywhere. Those guys work the hell out of those things running around checking on the fields, spraying weeds and what not.
