Nice view. I lived in Asheville, NC. before I moved to Colorado in 04. Been through WV many times. beautiful state. I miss the Appalachians sometimes, especially in the fall.

The simplest way to tie a dropper off of your hook is to first take the end of your tippet that's still on the spool. Wrap the tippet on around your index finger so there's a loop like you just put the tippet through the hook to make your clinch knot. Now you're essentially going to make a clinch knot from there. Wrap it around tippet 6 times. Pull your tag end through the loop and remove finger. Wet the end and slip the loop over the bend of the hook and pull. Done. 5 seconds tops

Now cut your tippet to desired length and tie on your point fly.

That sounds similar to the "albright knot". No?

I think I posted about this a few months ago, but I had a fish break me off in the creek, then about 45 mins or an hour later I was a little way down stream, got hung up on something, and ended up dragging my 2 flies that I had broken off out of the water. Guaranteed to be a once in a lifetime thing, and still can't believe it happened.

It's not an albright knot at all. Albright knot connects two pieces of line together similar to a blood knot. This is simply making a clinch knot that has an open loop that you slide around the bend of the hook then tighten down.

I'm about 2 hrs, but consider that the perfect distance. Its not all about the time on the water.

I'm about a mile away from trout. It's a larger river, and not the easiest to fish. I prefer smaller streams. IMG_0750.jpg

That's a damn nice fish for your area. I never found anything like that when I lived out there.

Yea, i have a few times on a lake. You should be confident just paddling first. It gets interesting casting a fly rod. Be prepared to swim! I used some para cord to make a leash for my rod so i wouldn't loose it. Fighting and landing a fish is even more fun! Its alot of fun and good exercise too.

    Good idea about the leash.
I imagine it would be fun landing any size fish.

I actually read your post as I was heading to my folks house to give this a try for the first time... I found out that there are much better fly fishing vessels out there than SUPs haha!

I am very confident on their inflatable paddle board and have really good balance... But I went swimming twice today. First time was reaching down to swap the rod for the paddle. Second time was turning to look at my backcast and ended up getting broadsided my a small wave from a boat wake out in the main channel. I made sure I had a death grip on my rod both times!

Honestly, I think paddle boards are terrible fly fishing platforms... Unless you get one of those dedicated Bote type fishing paddle boards. But at that kind of money, you can get a nice used kayak or even jon boat w/motor! And I think either of those would be more versatile (I have both).

    My biggest issues were -
Line management - Fly line ended up under the board and wrapped around the paddle.
No storage - I only brought a rod, one fly, and the paddle and that was all I wanted on the deck

I feel a stable fishing kayak (one where you can stand easily), is a much better option. I regularly stand and fish out of my old Wilderness Ride 135 and my new Old Town Predator MX and haven't gone swimming in those! The only real advantage to an iSUP, is the weight savings and portability. But with the dedicated wider and more stable fishing paddle boards, I'm not sure how great the weight savings is.

This was the next biggest one from yesterday...

Thanks. Im either getting better or getting luckier at finding fish like that.

I think my timing was perfect yesterday. It rained very lightly most of the day Saturday and temps dropped down into the low 50s over night.

I fished all day today in the Laurel Highlands and found new stream full of big colored up brookies and another full of big hungry browns. Ill have to post some pics later on.

"In" Im assuming you meant? I fish all over western PA. This toad came outta a small freestoner in Bedford Co. The other pigs a posted a few weeks back came from a stream in Venango Co.

I lived near 7 springs for a few years. Some nice water in that area.
