Anybody happen to know how often metal gas cans need replacing? No long-term storage, always emptied into the truck within 30 days and stored in the garage when not in use. Exterior is in decent shape, paint has chafed off in a few spots. Question is whether the interior coating holds up over time. This one is 5 years old.

You can always have them pressure tested and re coated just like a fuel tank on an older vehicle. Usually a radiator repair facility can perform this function.

Okay. Probably not worth it for a $45 can, though.

Eww! Metal cans? I agree with Danny.

I'd be more than happy to dispose of that nasty metal can for you ;)

It's a valid point. I don't think they're an issue though. Especially if you empty them regularly. I'm planning to get another one when my swingout is built in a few weeks.

    From the internet:

"After working with old cars for many years I have found that steel tanks don't rust (internally) unless they get water in them (which they all do) that is with conventional gasolines/petrols where the water and petrol do not mix, in this case the water sinks to the bottom of the tank and causes it to rust in that location. Newer ethanol based fuels dissolve the water in petrol and reduce the rusting effect."

I know you are a competent, mechanically minded person, so I'll leave the links here for those looking for a DIY solution.

Conceptual reasoning could interpret this video as helpful in finding a way to verify the perosity of the tanks seams:
    https://youtu.be/-GXJz0JjaUU

But I really chose it because of boobs...

After it's been verified to hold positive pressure, monkey snot, such as this product, works quite well:
Red Kote Quart Coat Gas Fuel Tank Sealer Liner Gas Oil Diesel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009X0JOSM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_s53QzbSHH36TM

Once finished with the appropriate cure time, and only after viewing this video:

Drink mas cervezas and celebrate with brodies in the local PD's parking lot.
