Best No Cut Lift for 2016/2017 Taco to fit 33"x12.50x?

Hey there folks. I'm brand new to the TW and wondering if anyone can provide solid advice as to whether there are any excellent "No Cut" suspension lifts available for the 2016+ Tacoma that will permit the fitment of 33"x12.5"x20" (I'm flexible on wheel diamater - e.g. 17, 18, 20) such that there is absolutely no rubbing anywhere at full articulation / full lock and has excellent off-road performance while maintaining goof road manners.

The last Tacoma I owned was a '99 which I had for a decade. Now after having owned a couple of Rams, I'm really interested in a '17 Trd Off Road, but I want a nice set of 33" Toyo MTs without having to carve up the frame - yet still proves a good highway feel and solid performance off-road. Mind you, I'm not a rock crawler, but I got my old TRD Taco into some VERY hairy stuff back in the day.

The dealership I've talked to has a very smooth 2017 TRD-OR with what they describe as a "Pro-Comp 3" Coil Over" (they didn't identify the precise kit) which I ran a little warm over whatever bumps I felt I could comfotably take with the salesperson sitting next to me and I thought it seemed ok, but don't exactly trust anyone other than well informed enthusiasts such as you folks.

Finally, I don't mind paying for a higher end kit. Advice and suggestions are most welcome.

Welcome to the club, as well as Tacoma World.

A lift kit/ suspension system doesn't allow you to fit bigger tires. You have the same range of travel, just with a lift you start at a lower point. If that makes since.

A true 33", 295/75/16, will rub for days without any cutting or massaging,

Hmm.. I understand the concept, but now I feel dumber than a box of rocks. Perhaps I'm all wet, but I don't think they cut up the frame on that brand new '17 TRD-OR to fit those 33s on 20s in there did they?

    IMG_20170827_131224632_HDR.jpg

My '12 Ram has a Mopar 3" lift installed through the dealer and it fits 35s with no rubbing of any type and can handle up to 37s and I see no evidence of cutting. Granted a Ram is not a Taco. Now I'm wondering what the Toyota dealer did install and if that kit they did install is good junk or somewhere in between.

They may have adjusted the caster to align the wheels a bit forward to prevent rubbing in the cab mount

Good chance they either did the cab mount chop, or they just don't care that it rubs?

Ok. Now I'm headed back down there and going to take a load of pics of the underside and suspension and post em back to this thread. They claimed there are no spacers (hockey pucks) and used top notch coil overs, etc to get the height. They're also charging a hunk for this lift and I'd rather not get ripped off. Perhaps doing it after market is the better route.

I guess about the only thing I can ask for is a recommendation as to what lift to get. Again, I won't be doing any super crazy offroading, but I do get off-road more than most folks with 4x4s, as I was raised here in Arizona, camping, hunting, fishing.

Thank you for the warm welcome and advice / commentary.

Smitty99, perhaps I better meet you for lunch at Uncle Sal's in Scottsdale on my dime for a quick crash course on this. Lol

I see dealers in my area chopping the cab mount, double check that truck next time you are in there.

Looks like they did a block lift. If I were you, I'd buy the truck stock and purchase after market lift yourself. I'm sure they're charging around 7-10K for the "lift and tires". For 2-3k you can get a fantastic lift, hell even under that. And you can find rims and tires for a better price too.

I wonder if those CV axles experience the same problems as the second gens at that angle. I remember reading about all the drivetrain vibrations that were allegedly traced back to CV joints after lifts.

The dealer here uses quality lifts to fit the 285's on the showroom floor. They do not address clearance issues though. They do 3/4 of the work and tell you about how to clearance them for off road.... and they look great.

    Jsinnard,

Actually I have driven it and I ran it as rough as I figured it could get away with, with the sales guy sitting next to me. I was surprised he didn't say anything. Anyways it rode very nice which surprised me and I hit a few bumps and dips very hard and it just soaked them right up like it was nothing.

I also found out that there are a limited number of lift the dealer is willing to install, as certain lifts will could the warranty. So, I'm not real sure what to think.
