Looking for a set of carriers with 430s or something i can throw in 456s into. I have a 2001 taco extra cab with 430s but i want a spare set of diffs for wife's 99 runner. The part numbers look the same.

 

So how hard is it to change ring and pinion in first gen? I'm doing my wife's gears and want to know if its a bitch.

 

Do both have elockers?

 

No e lockers. Both are open and going with Auburn limited slips in front and Detroit soft lock in rears.

 

I should be able to get those pretty reasonable. I can't check until Tuesday though.

Any chance does this chart work with a 15'? I seem that i can not find a second gen ratio chart. Im reading A04B. Hoping that I do have 4.56s with the 6speed for 33s

 

I have B04A in a '01 2.7L extended cab (Auto) is this rare? Seems strange to have 4.56 in a 4 cylinder....

Edit: Just read some more of this post and saw it's pretty common. Never mind I will see myself out.

 

Just a heads up to everyone. When I sold all the drivetrain out of my truck I found a ? Where the gear code should be and all of my research shows if it has a ? Then it was a special ordered truck and you will literally have to figure out what headset you have by either guessing and counting turns. Or pulling the gear set out and finding out. I have a 5sp 3.4l Ex cab truck and turns out I had 4:10.

 

Interesting. While mine turned out to be 4.3, the info on the bottom of the OEM Gear Ration Chart started a conversation about "pause-traction" units and what it means to be 4X4 and or 4X4 and Pausi-traction on my 2000 2.7L manual 5 spd with reg cab and short wheel base. I was told that in 4X4 I either get the left rear/rightfront OR the right rear/left front, no other options as far as which tires are grabbing. With pause-traction, I get both rear tires and one OR THE OTHER front tire grabbing: so three verses two, which sounds wonderful.

In asking about it some more, I learned that there are three different types of pause-traction units, and the clutch-driven type was recommended (least amount of negative; most amount of positives). Here is a question for those who would know on this forum if you don't mind: given that most of my driving is on wet asphalt roads (sometimes icy), mostly around town, then some over the Pass type driving, and some Forest Service road driving, a little snow driving - more if this all turns out to be a lot of fun, would you recommend a pause-trraction unit?

 

Is there a gear ratio chart for the 2005 and newer Tacoma's? I don't believe this chart applies to 05 and newer. My 05 Tacoma TRD w/Elocker read's A04B which would be 7.5 Ring Gear 4:56 Gear Ratio, 4 Pinion Open diff, but according to Toyota with a vin search it has 3:73. Any info would be appreciated.

 

They have a different code chart. I've tried to fine one but no luck.

 

If I wanted to put 4:10's in my truck would anything have to be done to the speedometer (show correct speed)? I assume not, but I wasn't sure. I hate these 3.58's truck just feels gutless.

You will have to change the speedometer drive gear in the transfer case if you change your differential ratios and keep the same tire size.

This 'speedometer drive gear', is it something that can be changed out: my 2000 2.7L 4X4 5 spd came with 265 tires - we had this discussion and the inside door label indicated they should be 225s, which is what I then put on; problem is, the speedometer has been off every since. Is there a way to get the speedometer to read correctly by switching out the 'speedometer drive gear' with another one?

 

You can wire in a Dakota digital. It intercepts the speedo signal and alters it to speed up or slow down your Speedo. It’s fully adjustable to get you speedo exactly correct

My taco is b06a/r150 which is 3.91 and I found a 3.92 are they to much different that it would effect my front end if I put the 3.92 in the rear?

 

'99 TRD Off Road with the 3.4, 5 speed and factory rear locker. B03A. 8 inch 4:10 Not fast off the line. But just fine the rest of the time.
