Toyota Frame Settlement Postcard

Yes, that is the "non-public" letter to dealers doc, introducing the situation as linked above. The details and specifics of the WEP-ZH6 "frame replacement" campaign have yet to be released. I.e. that FAQ may or may not be relevant to the exclusion of vehicles purchased prior to 12/2/2016 included in he court approved settlement re: frame replacement. Toyota may choose to ignore it (for some period of time) or not--nothing will be concrete until they release the official WEP-ZH6 policy...

 

The guy that uploaded that copy of the WEP works at a Toyota dealer and his own personal truck was purchased this year. He had it inspected and approved for a new frame the end of July/ early August. If Toyota were to backpedal and try to say, we're not gonna do that, even though we said we would, that would really start a shitstorm.

 

Yup, that was me and my parts manager told me that they were finally able to order the parts on Tuesday and mine failed the inspection about a month ago. I just bought the truck 6/30/17. I already submitted the documents that they asked for to get reimbursed for the frame patch that I had done and the brake lines that I replaced. I was told 2-3 months before the parts are in. Luckily for me, I can wait and have have to take a used truck off the lot if I need to use one.

I also found out that the tech will take a picture of any holes with a 10mm wrench held up to it so the size of the hole can be put into perspective to whomever is reviewing the photos.

Here's my truck since I never posted a pic before. It's a 2006 6spd with 64k miles. I asked about the hitch and my parts manager said they most likely won't do anything about it. I'm probably going to buy a new one along with shocks and I'm thinking about a ToyTec lift kit while it's apart. For what I bought it for, thinking I'd have to pay out of pocket for the frame, I'm not going to complain about the hitch. If I was in the position of some of you, I'd be trying all I could to get them to replace that as well.

Called up my local Toyota dealer yesterday, asked to get my frame inspected under the recent settlement. Then got transferred up the line to what I guess was a manager. Brought the truck in this morning (I knew it would fail, another dealer told me in July it should not be driven when they did the leaf springs). It did fail, and I was in a rental by 1PM. Very odd though the dealer didn't explain anything about what the process was or how long it would be. But I am content, there was a few days back in July that I thought the whole truck would be a write off.

 

I have what is in that 3rd pic and dealer said it's normal .My frame has lots of rust but no holes. I or the dealer can notfind any holes..Acually most of those picture look like my frame but no holes .

 

There is no frame issue in the Toyota site .

 

I've looked yesterday and didn't find anything either.

I'm trying to figure out my next step since my frame passed inspection (no holes) but I don't like the looks of it .

 

You have a little bit of time. You don't think you have any problem areas that will rust through before expiration of the Settlement for you?

 

I need to crawl under again and take another look .Part of frame rail is coming apart in layers and the dealer said it's normal .

 

When Is the Expiration On a 2008 ? 12 Years from first use?

 

I'd snap some well detailed pics and attach them to an email to Toyota Experience Center. It helped me when I called a couple days later. They had something to look at instead of just an explanation of damages.

I won't know the exact date because I don't know when it was originally sold, but, if it was sold, say, January of 2008 then it would be January of 2020.

mine failed entirely because of the first picture. youve still got time, give it another winter and dont wash it and maybe youll get one. you need one 10mm hole ANYWHERE on the outer frame rails, and that fails it.
