    Alright folks,

The wife and I have to head down to Sac on the 25th of September. If anybody between here and there is interested I still have a LCA and IFS skids from BAMF for sale, an ALLpro rack, Relentless bedbars, and some other stuff.

    Cheers,
    -Jon

If I get some new coils (with lift?) to go along with the 5100s in front, could I avoid using a spacer all together? Or will I need a spacer no matter what if I want to avoid the max height setting on the 5100s?

Also, will I need new upper control arms after this suspension overhaul? Will an alignment suffice?

Yesterday I got underway with a friend for a run around the Bay. It was just a little LESS HOT on the bay, but not by much. we have the wives with us, and usually that means we don't get to go to certain places in the bay as it is usually pretty rough. But, with this weather we were able to get out to Point Bonita. Dolphin and Humbacks by the hundreds. Amazing day.

Not enough to have a build thread.
Eibach springs are fairly cheep and give like 3" of lift. Dunno how stiff they are. @Fernando, I think this was your old setup wasn't it? 5100s and eibachs? How'd it ride?

An alignment will suffice, but not be perfect given the angles you're changing. UCAs will help correct those angles but really aren't desperately necessary unless your doing a coilover setup as far as I know

I use to have the 620 lb 3" Eibach coils w/ 5100's on the bottom setting and they were really rough. But I didn't have much weight in the front besides a front TG bumper. Although I have a 1st gen DC.

What front coil would you recommend to go along with the 5100s for a smoother ride? I have a 1st gen DC as well (albeit a Prerunner), and wont have much weight up from as well. And I would be looking to match the rear lift given from the OME Dakars.

I'm not familiar with the OME coil springs. But the Eibachs were pretty stiff.

Would you say the stiffness came from the coil and not the 5100s themselves?

Yup, it's the spring rate not the shocks. Look into OME 884s with a trim kit. -Jon

I have a first gen and I don't think the 884s fit. I will have to go with 882s or 883s I think. I'm not 100% sure though. Also, I know this may sound dumb, but what is a trim kit? Why do you need them? I am guessing that you need to trim off some plastic parts that get in the way due to lift? Or a new housing for the coil? I tried looking around for the answer before I asked but couldn't find a direct answer.

the trim pack with the ome set up is just a small 10mm spacer that goes on top of the drivers side coil to compensate for "taco lean." (weight of driver)

the difference between 882's and 883's is length and spring rate

883's offer a higher spring rate, if you have a heavy plate bumper and winch go with 883's

882's have a lower spring rate but are a little taller than 883's

there are also 881's and 880's

heres some numbers and info from wheelers

    880's
    height:365mm
    rate:500lb
Average lift from this coil set on an extra cab v6 Tacoma or 4Runner is 1.25-1.5″.

    881's
    Height: 375mm
    rate: 500lbs
average lift for ext cab 1.75-2

    882's
    height: 395mm
    rate: 500lb
*Note: the 882 Coil Set is Only Recommended for Double Cab Tacoma’s or V6 Extra Cabs Running A Winch & Bullbar. They’re going to provide approximately 2.25″-2.5″ lift on a V6 extra cab Tacoma with a winch and bullbar.

    883's
    height: 375mm
    rate:590lb
Some customers are asking for these newer coils for heavier applications similar to the ones listed for the 2882 Tacoma coils. On a 95-04 Tacoma v6 xtra cab with winch and bullbar or 96-02 4Runner v6 with winch and bullbar the lift is approximately 2.5″.

edit: in your case with a double cab with stock front end I vote 882, bumper and winch 883's

Thanks a lot for the information dude! I couldn't find a definition of a "trim kit" anywhere! And I think I was leaning more towards the 882s as well. Do you think the front lift from the 882s would match the rear list I get from Dakars (which is around 2.25-2.5 inches)? It seems like the combination evens out.

Devin nailed it. Sorry, I didn't read the 1st gen. The 882s on my brother in laws rig gave him the factory rack back with Dakars on his rear. He also has a body lift on his rig now so a picture would probably be misleading.

Buddy is selling a trailer. Frame is rust free. Bucket has spots that would need to be taken care of. He's replaced the axle, wiring, wheels, etc. only the bucket is needing work. Might be a good start for a camping/utility trailer. You guys think it's worth the $1000 he's asking?
