Thanks. I'm behind schedule for getting to all the potential fixes. My wife had shoulder and bicep surgery so time has been really limited. Like so many other great ideas, this one could work too because at first I kept slamming down my rear seat to make sure it was down. Then I moved to the passenger seat thinking it was it. I'm ready to get out and piddle with it in the next day or two so I can figure it out. This forum has been off the charts great though. Many great ideas....

OK folks, I couldn't stand not piddling around on my truck so I went outside in the dark and figured I would at least switch my headrests over. I'm now virtually certain we can rule the headrests out as the cause BUT while taking out the passenger side headrest the seat moved awfully easy. So, I gave it a few heavy pats back and forth and it seemed really easy to move. I then tried that on the driver's seat and it stayed firm and didn't move at all. Then I wiggled the passenger seat front to back and it feels like the seat is loose! It was too dark to do much with it and the garage was full tonight but either tomorrow or Monday I'm going to tighten down the seat and see if this is my problem. To me, it has always sounded like a seat wobbling so let's hope this it it. On another note, I have owned a lot of new cars over the years and if this seat is loose it will be the first one I've ever had.

Well hopefully it's as easy as tightening 4 bolts.

I hope so. If only this is going to be this easy. It's been a tough couple of weeks so I could use a break!

Have you considered removing the passenger seat to inspect the under side?
The passenger seat has a bar under there that is bolted on left to right for some reason that the drivers side doesn't have. Could be it's loose :notsure:
    Hope you solve the mystery
    Cheers

Excellent idea and I will do just that. I know the seat is loose from shaking it earlier so maybe taking it out and checking everything is the way to go. Thanks!

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for all of the great ideas about my seat noise. I always thought it was a loose seat and as it turns out, it was. The 4 main bolts were secured well but the passenger side rear bolt, which also happened to be where I identified the seat being just somewhat loose, didn't feel like it was threaded right when I removed it. But, that didn't really seem to be the main issue. The main issue were the hex threads fastening the seat into the seat rails on the rear passenger side. While they were technically tight, two of them on the right rear were not as tight as the others. So, I used a T30 hex and tightened them. Then, when putting the seat back in, I switched the left passenger side seat bolt with the right one. When all was tightened down the seat could not be "wiggled" in any direction like before.

IF this turns out to not be the "fix" then I will need a new seat frame because the other two potential culprits are tacked in and could not be tightened. I am hopeful now because the seat feels very secure and in place. Switching out the main bolts bolting the seat frame to the truck in the rear also probably helped because the bolts threaded in very nicely whereas both of them were tough to get out. They didn't look cross threaded when I got them out but they were not a good fit. Now they are.

The only tools I needed was a 14mm socket to get the four main seat bolts out with; a T30 hex to tighten the small screws holding the seat frame in; and a small Phillips screwdriver. On the outside there are 3 hex bolts in the front and 3 in the rear. Same on the inside but the inside ones are actually easier to reach because you don't have to remove the outer trim piece on the seat. To remove the outer trim I just used a small Phillips screwdriver and then carefully popped out the clips.

I hope this fixes the wobbling noise. If not, then the dealer can order a new seat. Thanks again to everyone litchi in to help!

I think I have been lucky (not counting the rear diff). My Taco is very tight. Apart from the one issue with the seat the interior is really tight and put together well.

My rattle goes away when my wife rides in the passenger seat, or maybe I just can't hear it over her!

Check the fix I mentioned. It seems like it's gone now but time will tell.

Update: I went for a drive in my truck today over the same bumpy roads that produced the noise and/or seat rattling. It looks like taking the seats off, tightening the bolts, and switching out the rear bolts that weren't seated right did the trick. No more rattling seats! Now, about that rear diff.....;)
