What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Seen a clean double cab rolling down 575 today in canton ga I know I've seen the owner on here before but couldn't remember the username, anyway nice looking truck

 

Either in cab controls or leave it near the winch. Seen a few easy recovers take way to long or go bad because they have to wait for the driver to pop the hood and plug in his winch controller. When I or most people I wheel with winch, driver stays in, guy pulls winch. Guy plugs in winch controller and flips the spool lever and backs to the driver. The driver drives and winches in at the same time. Winch and be done. No unecessary Crap.

On real hard trails I plug mine in and run it over my bumper and through the window and leave it on the dash.

 

You running Ultra 4 or KOH? Speed is only nice if you can still be careful

Nope. Always careful. Most of the time there's no need for snatch blocks and all the Crap most people buy. Not saying there not needed cause I have used them. Got high centered yesterday. All 4 wheels spinning. Never got out of the car cause a buddy pulled the winch line to the rig in front of my, hooked it to their shackle. Walked back, plugged in my winch controller which was in my center console, he put flipped the lever and I spooled it in while giving a little gas. Was out in 5 minutes with my small warn 9000 winch. Did the same thing for the guy that didn't make it behind me and he was even wedged in there.

 

Just go wireless

 

Not opposed to the wireless but the one guy in our group had one and he kept having to reconnect it or something everytime we went to use it in the matter of like 30 minutes so kind of turned me off to them. It didn't matter since he blew an axle shaft and the wheel fell off his jeep lol

My plan is to get another winch controller and cut the controller off, run it to a 3 way switch and put it in the clock to control tje winch. Don't want to take the bumper off again and mess with the wiring in it. And then I can just unplug the in cab one and plug in the controller if need be. But don't want to spend the money on the 2nd controller lol.

 

Depends on what kind of controller you have, I ran mine inside the cab for less than $15.

If you run it inside the cab don't use the plug on the winch. I did and it corroded and lost connection.
If you run it inside the cab hard wire it to the winch.
I just use wireless now and have had no problems.

 

Random question - do those stickers bubble / brown up, or peel on the underside of your hood? I'm not into stickers that much to have them showing, but I've got a growing collection from companies that contributed to my build - might be the perfect location.

Hmm good to know. My controllers like 80 bucks or something. Could only plug it in when wheeling but I also don't mind not having cab controls. Would be nice though. To much work to take the bumper off and mess with.

That seems to be the best spot right now. Before I go cutting up all the cable Im going to see about getting my battery relocation done and put the winch box in the battery spot. Labor day deals might make it worth while right now.

Only the really cheap ones. A couple of those stickers have been there for 2-3 years still look great! with a nice coat of grime of course.

 

Stupid spindles weigh an assload with the CV and upper arm still on but she's in and one icon is in too...

 

I'm sorry but tree savers, straps, and snatched blocks are extremely worth the money.

Every time I've had to use a winch up here we have had to use all of that or some of it.

 

Missing the point but to each there own.

 

I believe the point is that when one doesn't have a buddy to winch off (mind not in gutter) and one needs to rely on the natural environment, the afore mentioned items can not only increase ones winching capacity but can also prevent damage to the natural environment.

 

Was slow around the shop Friday so finally decided to pull the mirrors and repaint them, the factory paint was busted and spiderwebbing from rocks. Went with a black base instead of the whole things color matched pretty happy with the outcome
