BDS 6" or full King setup?

Getting a 2018 tacoma trd off road and wondering if I should go with bds 6 inch with coil overs and whatever else needed with it or full king lift set up.

Saw the video on the maui off road trd pro 6 in lift and sure looked good. Want great ride quality and will be getting nitro 4.88s either way.

I commute 450 miles a week all to work and the wife and I put another 250 a weekend running around 80% hwy. Don't rock crawl or anything but just do some back road trails and winter driving. when snow is on ground I still have to commute.

I also tow a small bass boat sometimes less than 4k total weight. Do run some ugly mud roads going fishing or hiking to get to rivers or ponds

 

You could run some bigger leaf packs in the rear instead of the 4 inch block spacers that would help with the occasional towing. Maybe some from all pro off road or getting custom ones from Alcan.But yeah besides that get the bds lift kit its solid and don't listen to all the hate on this forum for it.

 

If you want a 6" lift...BDS with the FOX 2.5 coil overs is the very best. Be prepared to go to a 18x9 wheel with 4.5 back spacing. FYI. I went with a 3" block in the rear and an add a leaf only because I already had the add a leaf. I'll be going to custom Alcans and no blocks next after the 4:88 gear swap. Like the guy said above me...don't listen to the haters, its your truck and money.

 

What is Alcans? I want to get the best set up from day one. Have shop that will install everything ecept gears. Have to find good gear shop that knows what they are doing and get the 4.88s also installed.

 

Do you mean alcan? Is so that's a custom leaf spring shop they have a website and they fully customize leaf springs for how you want em. I've heard good reviews, and the other place all pro offroad has great leaf pack as well. I agree with you its easier to have everything done from day one that's why you wanna do the research. You can maybe get like a 4 inch leaf pack and have the blocks from BDS cut down to 2 inches and I think that would maintain factory rake.

My tire shop said they can install what lift I wanted to buy. Wonder if they would know how to also add custom leaf pack and get it all correct? I know most like the normal lift kit like rough country but I like what I'm reading on bds kits. Just want my truck to ride as good or better than stock.

 

Yeah BDS have much better reviews than rough country and honestly the warranty also makes it a killer deal.

 

See the problem is a lot of times people on the forum get a shitty lift and I'm not just saying its rough country ones but its ones like that where the problems actually arise and then everyone on the forum has to be like "yeah its a 6 inch lift what did you expect?" and everyone just automatically assumes they are bad. But everyone this forum that I've seen with BDS(zone kit as well) haven't had any of those problems and love the kit. I'm sure @Tacomamike mike can agree with me here about that.

 

I have a friend near OKC his dealership could put those gears in for you. I can get him to put them in for a great price I'm sure. PM me if interested .

 

Cool. I'm going to have to talk to tire shop to ask them.if they can do one and go with the Alcan custom leafs. Wonder if Alcan will know what to make for my set up? Not sure tire shop will be able to handle all this if.having to make 4 in blocks into 2 in blocks

Nah just saying a lot of people on the forum make it seem like 6 inch is something no one should ever do like its the worst thing possible. Like a spacer lift some do

There's a 6" lift forum thread with enough information to keep you busy for probably weeks. I've had a 6" Pro Comp lift for about 4 years now, and it rides great. I run heavy springs and Icons in the front, but Kings etc will be just as good I'm sure. BDS makes great kits, you can't go wrong with them, unless someone installs it poorly. I would ask your tire shop if they have ever done 6" kits before, and see what their experience is. I wouldn't let any shop cut my crossmember etc, without good, documented experience.

You can get a full 6" leaf pack from Alcan. There's no sense in keeping blocks at all if you're paying for a custom leaf pack. Alcan requires a shit load of measurements from you in order to get everything correct, your best bet is to call them and have them walk you through the chronological procedure before you do anything to the rear.
