Well, as I was pilliaging the TIS site, I came across this. I know there was some quesitons about the engines in the 2011, maybe this will shed some light on them...

Looks like you will be able to get the 2TR with an Automatic now on the ext cab 4x4 and prerunner models. Unfortunately it doesnt tell us whether or not the 1GR has the new dual VVTI head for 11'. Guess we'll have to wait till June.

They will be offering the double cab with the 5 lug suspension (mini) now plus in the current 6 lug suspension setup, but it seems only with the 4cyl though. A friend of mine who works for toyota saw this truck in person a few months back in cali.

He said they made some changes to the front end overall design is the same, but couldn't tell me exactly what was done because its not even released yet.

That is interesting regarding the 4x4 Access cab with a 4 speed automatic. It almost leads me to believe that they will update the 4 cylinder to have dual VVT-I.

I'm still surprised they haven't updated the automatic transmission for the 4 cylinder. Almost all manufactures are moving to 6sp autos the 4x4 4-cylinder Tacoma could really benefit from 2 more gears.

It's toyotas technicial information service site that's has everything that the dealers use for any info they need. They have diagrams, reflash files,

and basically everything else you can think of available. Its an awesome site. It covers Toyota, Lexus, and scion cars.

Is this site available to the public or only to Toyota and their dealers?

It looks like both of these files were created approximately a year before the debut of the products. Is a Dealer Model Reference available yet for the 2012 model year?

I did see an interal toyota document that was floating around the 2010 4runner forums that mentioned a dual vvti 2tr in the works...my guess is that 2011 will be a refresh for the tacoma much like 2001 was. Hopefully we'll get dual vvti for both engines.

The site is open to anyone who is willing to pay. I paid the $15 for two day's so I could get all the doc's I wanted for the 2010 Tacoma. You can download the files in PDF (atleast I did) contrary to discussions about not being able to do that.

There are a couple of different membership levels, I did the same thing when I got my Corolla a few years back.

Thanks. Looks like a lot of information available on the site, expensive though if you want to look at any time.

It looks like we MIGHT see a dual VVT-I 4.0. ...a little more hp and torque for about the same fuel economy.

Either way. If I wait I can possibly get a 2011 with a new engine or I can get a good deal on a 2010 so its a win/win situation. Will also give be able to save up probably enough to pay in cash with trading in my truck. Thanks for posting this!

I spent $15 for 48 hour access and I was very pleased. I recommend it if you have any desire for detailed technical information about your truck.
