4WD question

The manual says to do 10 miles in 4wd per month to keep it lubricated. On Long Island there really is not place to get off road. Am I going to damage anything going in 4 Hi in a straight line on pavement every once in a while? Does everyone else hit 4Hi once or twice a month?

 

No you shouldn't hurt anything in a straight line.

But, imo, it's probably riskier to do that than to just not go 10 miles in 4x4. People go years without using it in their trucks and don't have issues.

 

Yeah, I am thinking just doing a block or two every once in a while to make sure everything is working.

 

You could always go to a gas station, put it on a lift, and go 4-wheeling off-road.

 

That sounds adventurous, maybe get a Gopro for such an epic trip.lol

You should at least get it up to temperature. If not, it won't burn off any moisture that is created and that could be worse than not doing it at all.

 

Sounds like a good reason to leave Long Island and never return!

Thanks for the post...all my previous vehicles were AWD or FWD...never occurred to me I had to do anything with 4wd on a regular basis...luckily I'm on 1.5 months into owning the truck. Guess I'll have to find a dirt road and switch it into 4wd

 

Also you can turn to 4 Hi while moving up 60 mph i think the manual said. but 4 lo you must stop and sometimes in 4 lo it will not engage on first try so you should just do it again. yeah I was reading the manual a bit today.
