That's way too much work, tape them to the top of the bed pocket in a plastic bag

Any time you have an electrical gremlin, the first suspect is a bad ground. Always. Instead of worrying about the key fob or it's battery or anything else, start with the truck. Check the battery cables, make sure they are tight and that they are making good contact.

Nor do you have to be the dark knight lol. JK.

One thing I have found after reading a lot of posts in the past few months is, a lot of people who come from nice (Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, etc) vehicles are some who have a lot of issues with the truck. Not all mind you but, I think some have buyers remorse and are looking for things because hey, the Tacoma is not in the same class as what they had. But then again I could be wrong.

Previous wins at what, resale and popularity? Dependability doesn't make it comfortable or fun to drive for everyone.

Did you not drive it first a few times to determine whether you really liked it or not?

My remote starter will work by pushing the lock button on my factory fob 3 times within a certain time. Several times I have managed to start my truck accidentally with the fob still in my pocket.

I was staying in a Hotel and I'm so OCD I hit the lock button 3 times and my truck started! I'm glad I didn't walk away with my truck running.

Even if I were an owner of a 5 series, it doesn't change that this truck has had more issues than any car ive previously owned (save a vey used mustang 2 when I was in high school). My wife has had a used Buick, an Accord, a CRV, another CRV, and I've had a used Mazda GLC, used volkswagen rabbit ( I wrecked it), a 4 cyl Ford Ranger, another used Ford Ranger, a Honda Civic, a 2wd 4cyl 1rst gen Tacoma and then the G35. Thanks for the snotty judgement though.

So, the issue isn't fixed with new batteries. We decided to risk more serious failures and spent some time above the Rim (AZ) in Coconino Forrest. I do love the truck when it's out in the dirt.

Day two, coming back and were checking out some future camping spots along the rim. Get out, truck locks and proceeds to ignore any commands from the fobs (both of them). Both now have new batteries and I'm standing within arms length of the vehicle. Guess it's going to the dealer after all. I did get a video of me clicking all of the fob buttons with the truck in the background. Hopefully we can skip the " can't duplicate the issue" nonsense.

Did you check to make sure the receiver was not covered with something that is restricting the reception?

I've read a couple of things suggesting it was in the dash. Some said it was near the glove box, others, near the left side. Either way, there's nothing there that hasn't been there for 18 months. The only thing new in the truck in in the past two days was a cooler and suitcase in the back seat, and two 2x12s and a small bag of ammo in the bed.

Oh well. In my 4Runner the receiver is under the floor near the back seat. I had laid a piece of metal across it and couldn't figure out why mine wouldn't work! Good luck man sorry I couldn't help more.

For what it is worth, I do appreciate the help. I want this to be something stupid and easy, and not something I'm still cussing months from now.

Guess I should replace my fob batteries. These have been in the fobs 2 years this month (When my truck was built)

What is not logical is the intermittent operation.
