The filter for the V6 is near the engine, but the air gets pulled from the fender.

Of course, but NO intake will get around that. Engines have the annoying tendency of heating up everything around them.

Placing a large surface area directly above the block has to be the worst idea

No issues driving during rain (including hurricanes) with the URD intake. They also offer a splash guard and "sock" if you want double levels of protection. Any water is a threat to an intake. the water thing is a valid point and should be taken into consideration (I know offroading. . .I do avoid water) but by no means a show stopper by any stretch of the imagination. Good inclusion of stuff to think about though.

I ran the shield, no help... the sock defeats performance aspect, truck was sluggish with it on.
The maf seat issue was stupid too. Add to that neither the shield nor sock would fix a bad maf seat.

The urd doesnt pull any cooler air than stock anyhow unless your talking about under 40mph.

Afe stage 2 si with blower, quiet and zero issues in rain. Pulls same ambient temps as urd, and stock around 40mph.

The oem air intake pulls air from inside the passenger wheel well/fender. It's designed that way on purpose, thats why there are vents in the pass side wheel well liner. As the tire spins (especially at highway speed) it creates a high pressure zone in the wheel well and forces air into the intake.
Setups like the K&N are esenetially a hot air intake since you've just relocated the air intake to the engine bay.
The only functional cool air intakes would be to add a snorkel or use the AFE setup that has the air ram at the grill and even with a functional intake its still pretty much pointless without an ECM tune.

If you want better fuel economy make sure your transmission is topped off, change your oil regularly, check your tire psi and stay in the Atkinson cycle aka shoot to keep accelerations under 2500 rpm.

My bad but same principles. The only way you're getting better fuel economy is to stay out of the throttle. 2nd gens pull air from the fender as well.

I'm convinced you may not know 100% what you're talking about. . .(haha and again, just another opinion [I could be wrong]...on TW.....lol). Ive seen a couple dyno charts showing the intake temps at the filter from stock, underhood aftermarket intakes, and URD.

sucks it gave you problems man. I think you may be 1 (or 2) of all the people I know running it that had issues. I am still trouble free after 4+ years with it. AND will be adapting it to work with the Magnuson S/C. 2-3 other members have done the S/C with TCAI with success. we'll see what happens. . .

. . .looks like you've had some bad experiences with intakes. . .lol

and no need to get defensive man...pictures and emails don't change my own opinion of you not knowing 100% what you're talking about...nothing you do will haha. If anything, numerous pictures of "your" truck with 3 different intakes solidifies my opinion. lets just all get back to enjoyin the forum and quit hijacking the OPs thread

Nope, 1 bad expericence on 1 of the urd intakes.
The rest was testing.... for yrs i agreed and regurgitated the "k&n is hot air intake" info i read... then i did my own testing.

Shit was cheap enough to test, then resell... i lost nothing more than $50.
Gained some info, lost subjective regurgitated nonsense
