Does anyone make wider fender flares to give more tire coverage than the factor flares for the 2012 taco? I need more tire coverage because the wheels we are planing on using will stick out farther. I don't want to use the cheap flexible add on rubber flares. I would rather put new flares on to keep the taco looking good. In PA, tires can't stick out at all.

Stock wheel are 17" x 7 1/2" with 5 1/4" backspacing (not sure of the offset) using Cooper Discoverer AT/3 P265/65/R17 tires

    New wheels (Mickey Thompson Sidebiter Lock p/n. 3379462) are 17" x 9" with 4 1/2" backspacing -12 offset using Cooper Discoverer AT/3 P265/65/R17 tires

By measuring off the factory wheels, the outside edge of the new wheels will sit out father by 2 1/4" causing the tire to stick out past the factory flares by approximately 1/2" (if i calculated correctly).

Surely you don't really mean 25 series tires.

Your calculations are off slightly. The 2" wider wheel will stretch the tire out 1" in each direction, so only 1" to the outside. So, that combined with the backspacing difference equals 1 3/4" farther out.

On 2nd thought, maybe I'm wrong about that. No, I think I'm right. LOL

I fixed the tire size. Should have been 65 instead of 25.

Also corrected wheel width to be 7 1/2".

1 1/2" wider wheel but it all comes out + 3/4" for less backspacing = 2 1/4" to come to the outside.

I thought about it some more and I am right. Visualize this. If you only moved the outer wheel lip out 2", it's only going to move the tread out 1". So with your updated dimensions, your tread is going to be 1 1/2" farther out.

Inner wheel lip will move out 3/4" & outer wheel lip will move out a total of 2 1/4" ( 3/4" because inner wheel lip moves out + 1 1/2" because going from 7.5" wide wheel to 9" wide wheel). With this said the tread is going to move out more than 1". I figure I need about 1/2" more coverage to keep legal here.

You're confusing yourself because of the 2 different changes. Picture it with only going wider with the wheel. (No change in backspacing). If you go from a 7 1/2" wheel to a 9" wheel, yes, you are moving the outer bead out 1 1/2", but the inner bead is going to stay in the same place. So, if you just grab the tire bead and pull, the tread is only going to move 1/2 of the distance that you pull the tire bead. So, if you ONLY changed the wheel width and not the backspacing, the tread would only move out 3/4". Now add the 3/4" backspacing change, and you get a total of 1 1/2" of tread movement outwards.

FWIW, around here, you see Jeeps and Dodges with 5" or 6" of tire hanging out and the cops don't seem to bother them.
