I'm hearing a clicking sound from both front driver and passenger. Sometimes it's louder on one side or the other and it is consistent with tire rotation. I hear it the most when I'm coming to a stop and my Windows are down, or coasting next to a wall around 30mph or less. The truck don't pull to one side or the other (no different than before I first noticed the noise). My passenger tierod boot is leaking a bit but they dont rotate. Ive checked my front breaks for any loose pad/spring activity, they seem normal. I'm thinking that my front hubs are not fully disengaging or something along those lines. They do engage and seem to work fine. Can anyone tell me where in the front end does the engagement occur for the "hubs" to lock? I do have an independent switch for the front hubs due to the manual crawl-box but it still seems to be functioning the same as usual.
    Thanks everyone.

Did you check your tires to see if there are any small rocks in there?

Lol of course. When i first heard it that's what I thought it was so I didn't think anything of it. It's definitely mechanical.

Aha just making sure. There was this other thread I was in a few months ago that was like 25 pages long of trouble shooting and all it was was they ran out of gas. Sometimes it's easy to overlook the easy things. Anyways, good luck!

I've had a similar issue for a few months now. I racked my brain trying to figure it out. Tire rotations, tire pressure, all suspension parts, wheel bearings, etc etc. Had Toyota look it over with one of their servicemen and the shop foreman with me present. Couldn't find anything. I just learned to live with it since my truck is 7 years old now.

Let us know if you find anything.

    Wheel bearings?

You have manual locking hubs? Or front end is still all stock?

Dang all that and no luck? Well shit. I've been dealing with it for about a month. I just don't want to neglect it and have it leave me stranded in the woods.

The front diff and locking mechanism is still stock minus the different switch to engage/disengage. I tried looking up manual hubs to try and fix it but I can't find anyone who makes them.

Since i don't hear a grinding or squealing sound and both side started making the clicking sound at the same time, I haven't replaced the wheel bearings yet.

I think my Icons clunk against the sway bar. It's inconsistent but I suspect either that or the coils rotating.

You won't necessarily hear a grinding or squealing when bearings go bad. Mine was loose and gave me a slight clunk that got worse over time as it went bad, never heard a peep from them.

You mean the 4x4 actuator on the front diff? Or do you have an ARB in your front diff?

4x4 works just fine? Goes in and out without issue or extended blinking in the dash?

I'm still confused about what you're referencing when you say hubs in your OP. Do you mean engaging 4x4?
The bolded would indicate that you have a locking diff up front...

I had this same thing happen to me after I installed a leveling kit w/ a diff drop. It was popping as I came to stops (made me nervous as hell). So backed out and pulled into the driveway a couple of times at like 10 mph and applied the brakes hard when coming to a stop. I tried to make everything kind of seat into place after installation. I did this about 10 times and it finally stopped popping. Not sure what caused it but it finally fixed. :bananadance:

I know my explanation is confusing. I do not have a front locker. I guess I'm referring to the 4x4 actuator? However saying hubs makes more sence in my head. When everything is all stock we have one round dial that we turn clockwise 2h-4h-4l and that's it. In my case I have an aftermarket twin stick transfer case (inchworm lefty) that allows me 2h-2l-4h-4l manually. However shifting it to 4wd alone does not actually make the front pull, it only puts my in to lower gear range. I have a separate switch that I have to click up to engage or down to disengage the front. I hope this helps clear it up some.

Ok so your hubs/wheel bearings are essentially the same thing. So when you say your hubs are locking and unlocking I read as a locking diff or manual locking hubs lol. Nothing goes in the hub in the stock tacomas, it's all in the diff, unless you add something :D.

I mean, jack up the truck and spin the tires, see if there's anything clicking or something going on. Give everything under the truck a good hard shake. If it wiggles, 99% of the time its not supposed to :D.

I've tried this, even used a long bar for more leverage to locate any slop/movement on either side. It all seems tight and I can only hear it when front is under its own weight. So where my problem may be is in the front diff itself?
