Should I buy an expensive Tacoma or settle with a 4runner or Jeep?

The 4 Runner is nice, but you will always be the designated driver (DD)... Bad move. I am leaning towards the Access Cab Tacoma, if your budget allows.

If it's for your child at college the access cab for him is a big bonus for you. Less passengers can fit in the access cab then the 4Runner and the Jeep. Less passengers less distractions.

As previously stated, it really depends on your needs and differs per person. I find myself wishing I went with a 4Runner often for the back storage and lock ability but still having a capable 4x4. I love my truck though, just sucks having to worry about what's in the bed at all times.

I would stay clear from a Jeep. Especially that year. They are great as crawlers and trail rigs but suck for DD and have no usability for storage/family. Especially if not a 4 door. Also, Jeeps in that year range have huge tranny problems with the manuals so stay clean if it's not an auto (assuming the autos don't have a known problem, I'm only aware of the manuals.)

Is the Taco the access can pictured? Is it 4x4? That's a really good price if it is a Sport 4x4.

The word "reliable" doesn't belong in the same dictionary with "Jeep"!

    I second @ChemDawg's recommendation...

Tacoma is first on my list because its badass. I've had an ACLB Tacoma and now have a DCSB. I liked having the ACLB but it just seemed to be a hassle in parking lots, the suicide doors were cool at first but getting stuff in and out all the time was a hassle. Not having to leave your driver side door open to open the suicide door was a huge step up in convenience, especially in crowded parking lots.
4Runners are pretty nice, especially when lifted and some beefy tires. Having the storage in the back is awesome and the ability to reach in the back for stuff is a plus. Having passengers imo is nice, the company is nice and honestly I prefer being the DD, I trust myself more than others.
Plus the back seats fold down there might be enough space for two people to lay down in the back ( if you follow my drift) lol

The answer to your first question: Tacoma

Your second question is sort of a two-part question but I would answer: Tacoma and Tacoma

But I would add...if you're inclined to ask these questions on a Tacoma forum and not expect anything other than those answers, maybe you're not college material ... :anonymous:

I'd go for Tacoma then 4runner. With the truck you'll need it for beer kegs an it will serve you a long time if cared for. Sure a little more expensive but once you get in the work force an buy a house or get apt it's a life saver for moving among other things. Put it to you this way my dad has a 16 rubicon suped up for mountains of CO but DD a 12 Silverado with 180xxx cause jeep rides to rough road wise.

I find the complete opposite, being able to get behind the seats without needing to walk around back doors is to me more handy. If I was buying a 4 door truck it would be a 4Runner.

I've owned both a wrangler and Tacoma. Buy the wrangler for top down off-roading fun, also buy the taco as your daily. Problem solved!

I had a shitty YJ in college. No doors, no roof, 5 speed 4 banger.

It was a piece of shit but it only cost $4K. I learned a lot about cars while I owned that jeep: what's a starter, and how to replace them; what's a clutch master cylinder, and how to replace them 4 times; how to shift when your clutch is broken and there's brake fluid gushing out; how to drive using instinct when your gauges give out; how to properly block your tires when your ebrake breaks, etc.

That said, I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.

I suggest a cheap beater, too. Park it anywhere without having to worry about it, it's not the end of the world when someone pukes in it, and more money in your pocket for road trips and experiences. Unless you really need something newer, don't bury yourself with a fancy vehicle at this point in your life.

I can't believe I am opting for a Jeep over just about anything else, but in college a Jeep is pisser. Chicks love convertables, trust me.

4 runner only because having a truck in college will mean people will be asking you to help move every weekend.

If you go heep get a good backup bicycle...
