    Well F Toyota..
a whole day with the truck at the dealer and they tell me it's the exhaust system! I call bullshit! Atleast this time someone heard it.
The service person handed me the keys and said "it's good to go" and "nothing is needed it's the exhaust resonating "...
Well I call bullshit again. It's not the exhaust! Toyota better figure out what this is. If I Or a family member gets injured because of this there will be hell to pay!

Exhaust?! That seems weird and random.

On the other hand it would be an easy fix. Simple damper would do it.

I feel like they're just throwing ideas out there to see what sticks.

Anyway welcome to the club of the unhappy rear end howl disgruntled.

I don't buy the exhaust noise as the issue, they are just making up anything to get people out the door.

In theory ha! The service tech said they came to the conclusion while shifting into neutral and the noise went away! I told her not a chance it's exhaust! I said it's sound like bearings at the very least. She assured me that's the problem. I left the lot more pissed! At 54 mph I shifted into to "N" and guess what? Just as loud as when it's in gear! Now what? They told me I'm the 1st complaint of the noise"howling " at the racine dealership! I highly recommend avoiding them! l

54 MPH was the original sweet spot when mine started Howling with 300 Miles on the Odometer, since then it has expanded to roughly 50 - 60 MPH

They told me exhaust note too and I have a manual. You can literally do it in any gear between 50-60.

Mine was doing it really badly today. I'm wondering if temp makes a difference. It was about 65 all day today.

I threw some sandbags back there to see if I can change the angle, but I didn't get a chance to get it up to speed thanks to rush hour. Then I had some beers and that all went out the window.

I got handed off to Toyota Care, with notes. I guess I'll make that call maybe next week.

PS that Jeep "thing" I had to drive was total garbage. 8 speed tranny, would literally not use 7 or 8 under 60 mph. Worst torque management ever... but at least it mostly knew what gear I wanted it in :D

I have never seen a major auto manufacturer so completely clueless over something so irritating to its customers. Wait, I take that back. I saw it once. GM and it's vibration issues and cabin pressure issues. Those turned out to be a design flaw that cannot be fixed so if you complain enough or try to Lemon Law it then they give you another one and hope it won't be as bad. Been there done that.

Back to Toyota. Seriously? If it was the exhaust a damper would fix it. I would tell the dealer that is great news - thanks for finding the source. Now, put a damper on it and make it go away so I can't hear it. But, if it happens to be the rear differential and it seizes, who do I sue first? Nah, don't answer that because I will just sue everyone.

How long again have we been mass producing rear differentials in trucks? And now a major auto manufacturer has suddenly forgotten how. I love my Taco as much as the next but this has to get fixed. My wife had to drive my truck today while I was getting her Yukon serviced and she said she would never drive it again because "that howling sound" is driving her crazy.

Throwing weights in the bed didn't help, but for some reason it's slightly quieter with 4 people in the cabin.

Next step in my 17 turd howling! Emailed Toyota offices! It said due to heavy incoming emails response time may be delayed! I will email Toyota daily and see where that gets me. Next step is my local tv station and explain the way Toyota is dodging everyone. If all else fails I have a appointment for a free consultation with a lawyer on sept 23! I'm done playing Toyota games. This has been on going since march. I put 15,000 miles on this , and I'll be out of warranty by February! I just bought it end of February 2017. I see a buy back in there near future! I'm glad because I will never own another Toyota product after this!!!!

Maybe the extra people in the cabin just distract you from the Howling

They might absorb the noise as well, but my guess is it changes the angle

Wouldn't the weight he threw in the bed have given the same results if that were the case?

I drove three hundred miles recently with my family and all our camping gear and the noise didn't change.

I'd say with people and gear I had 600+ lbs extra weight.

Truck didn't skip a beat and neither did the howl.

Damn Moondog my dealership service manager said that a damper was exactly what the upcoming fix is for the howling. Hope they damper the crap out of mine. I asked how long he thought the gears would hold up with this going on and he told me that I didn't have a problem if they disintegrated because my dealership has a lifetime warranty for powertrain. I may get together with you on the lawyer if it locks up and sue them all. I know you have heard of Alexander Shunnarah Lol

I hope a damper will make the noise go away! I also hope they are not wrong because I have been on the wrong side of a seized up diff. Bad juju there my friend. No need for a lawyer here. ;) I have a lifetime powertrain warranty too. I see you are from Bama. Did you get yours at Limbaugh? I did. Hang in there and make them fix these Tacos! :)

Been getting this between 55-65 mph. Sometimes as slow as 35mph. Noticed this morning on my way to work that the howl sounded like it was "pulsating". Like if you were to whistle and cover and uncover your mouth with your hand repeatedly really fast.
