What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

So I went from the S/T Maxx on Method wheels to Terra Grappler G2s on 4Runner trail wheels. Both 285s/33". Disappointed the gas mileage didn't improve, maybe even somehow worse. The Terra Grapplers are less aggressive, and at least 15lbs lighter per tire. The ride is however more comfortable.

 

Changed rear differential fluid at 30,700 miles and 4 years. It was still golden color and minimal gunk on the drain plug. Replaced with M1 75w90. Really easy to do guys.

I do a fair amount of towing, boat and ATV trailer. Boat about 2500 pounds and ATV trailer with other gear (use it for hunting) at least 1500 pounds. I'm gonna do the front diff and transfer case but Pep Boys was out of fluid (I bought the last 4 bottles).

Finally got my linex Demello aluminum off-road bumper with 10k Smittybilt winch and synthetic line, with Baja Designs Squardon R Sport fog lights installed! Along with new off-road CVJ axels, Plus got her all washed and cleaned up!

 

Yeah, I applied for that job about 4yrs ago and they had an opening. Took it and haven't looked back. I just think of everyday as Monday.

 

Over the weekend I ordered up new Labor Day sale bolt on @Relentless Fabrication rock sliders, took my cap/cvt set up off for now, added a 30" single row led light bar with hidden brackets and found a grill on the CL for $30!!! Took it home tore down and painted matte black not a bad deal, pic shows how it looked before

 

Looks good. I've been working on mounting everything on my Demello to install next weekend.

Where did you mount the control box on the winch? I mounted it top center for now.

 

I mounted mine on the right/passenger side of the winch. If center mounting it would cause rubbing of control box on bumper. Plus side mounting it on right side gives better access to on/off switch to winch plus plug in for cable for wired remote. Do note that supplied cables might come up short to wire to battery. I Had custom positive and negative cables made up since I wired up a marine cut off switch so I could turn power on and off to winch. So when I want power to winch I just flip the switch otherwise it's turned off. That way I don't have the battery drained by winch accidentally or if an oh shit moment I can turn power off to winch.

Did a lot of little things today. Added a decal to my back window from Rocky Mountain National Park along with a patch inside. Direct wired my GPSr so I no longer need to use the cigarette lighter plug. Put some seal around my bed cover where I had a gap. Put on Cubby seals. Also put the flag decals on.

 

Thanks for the info. I got the winch mounted, and it doesn't look like anything is rubbing center mounted. It does look like it is standing a hair above the bumper though, so I'm not sure if it will interfere with the grill.

Also, thanks for the warning about the cable lengths, and the switch idea.

Officially became one of those guys who flew those little flags that go in your window, except i put them in the bed between the bed cleats. hats off to TW for giving me the idea. i hate those things but for the first home clemson game i thought i may as well. made the girlfriend happy and they did look good rolling through Clemson so it was a win win. Sorry i forgot to grab a picture

 

im surprised someone didn't say anything about taking a picture while doing 75mph with the maintenance light on and the TMPS light on.

 

Eh. Probably 5k light and no TPMS sensors.

 

I figured the maint. light was probably the 5k service reminder.

 

Ive read somewhere that the T4R trail wheels weigh around 38lbs each. That might be why your mileage went down.

 

Drove it almost 300 miles this weekend. Noticed a squeaking noise. Cant pin point it though. I can only hear it when driving with the windows down, radio off, along a jersey barrier. On a non-divided highway, its not noticeable.

The serp belt/tensioners/idler pulleys have 102k miles on them. I need to investigate more tomorrow after work.
