I installed a 2.1 amp USB charger on the left hand side of the steering wheel.
It didn't take long for me to realize that it wasn't an ideal spot considering I like to keep my phone by the console cubby hole and I had to run the USB cord across the dash and over the steering wheel to do so.

So I went ahead and installed a 4.8 amp under the climate controls.

To power them I used a Fuse Tap on the fuse panel located under the dash.

Some pictures in no particular order for reference:

How'd you wire over to the climate control? I definitely want to do something like this.

Once I removed the blank plate from the empty switch spot I was able to snake a wire down through the opening and came out behind the dash to the right of the gas pedal.
Then just snaked the wire over to the fuse panel under the dash.
I put the fuse tap in the spot on the fuse panel where the 15amp fuse for the 12volt power outlet is.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Now to decide which USB kit is the best.

How much trimming did you have to do to fit the Blue Seas USB charger in the switch blank? Tried one of the cheap Toyota sized ones, and it was junk. Threw it out.

I would have tapped onto the cigarette lighter right there. It's literally inches away. And 15A.

The only trimming was on the inside of the opening. The opening stays the same but I had to cut off the tabs on the top and bottom on the inside of the opening. I used a Dremel but could have easily used a utility knife.

Yep, that's is also an option. Only difference is the USB and 12v accessory port will both be protected by a single 15a fuse. Whereas with the fuse tap I was able to have the 15a protection for the 12v port and use a separate and lower rated 7amp for the USB.

The climate control panels pulls right off. Pull the screen/vent bezel off first. If you have a touchscreen the clearance under the center of screen is tight but it comes off. Gives you access to all the wires back there.

Definitely an option but I didn't even go this far. I was easily able to fish a set of power wires through the switch opening and down through the lower dash and come out by the gas pedal.

    Yeah that makes sense.

For another option for USB power with minimizing visible cords, I got the below and tapped it into the existing cigarette lighter power. I have the USB cable fished over to the steering column and coming out through the gap between column and dash almost directly to my cell mount (hondo garage vent mount with RAM magnet).

The Blue Sea Charger is a completely separate USB charger. You will need to connect it to a 12 volt power source.

Excuse my dumbness. Doesn’t the factory USB charger have a 12 volt power source?

OK, So I believe the factory USB may be fed (gets its power) from the radio/head unit. I don't believe there would be a 12 volt power source directly feeding the factory USB port.
