I loathe tourist drivers. When home I seriously try not to go anywhere I don't have to.

    However...

Just last night, we were on the last leg of our little trip, within an hour of home. It was dark, after 9pm, on Tioga Rd. If you've never driven it in the day, it can certainly be a bit unnerving at night.

Huge line of cars held up by one going 25 in a 45. Others flashing lights, honking horns, passing as soon as safe and blasting the horn... also has no tail lights. Finally I'm the one immediately behind the slow driver. Approaches a turn out and actually uses it! We are excited!! Because of the tail light issue, I pulled in behind to talk to him and let him know. (Lots of foreigners in rental cars, don't know where things are)

He rolls down the window and I can see he's is trembling and almost in tears. I'd guess mid-60s.
Blah blah blah, lives in Chicago and hasn't/doesn't drive at night. At all.
I calm him down, husband and I talk and convince him he's better off letting me drive him and his car to the Lodge in Yosemite valley rather than be afraid and a hazard. 45 minutes later we finally get to the Lodge, checked in and to his room.

To keep his mind off the darkness and winding roads, I kept him talking until I nearly ran out of ideas! Come to find out, he's got a fantastic life story. But he just is truly terrified to drive at night. Something that probably doesn't cross my mind when I see folks out here driving like shitsticks. I may have a little more patience for the near future (I'm sure I'll be back to my ways soon). But for now, Chris got to his hotel safely and far sooner than he would have on his own.

PS. This guy rode his bicycle from Milwaukee to Yellowstone when he was just 16 years old!

I'll take Waze over a detector any day, especially the Laser detectors.

Basically, if your laser detector goes off, it should announce it with "Get license and registration ready. Be friendly to the nice officer who is going to be at your window momentarily"
