I wonder if I should even get a tacoma. I won't hit 1K miles in the first 2 years. My issues won't start creeping up until my truck is 15 or 20 years old!!! Way out of warranty.

 

Just over 1000 miles on my truck as well.

9/10 people that complain on here like to think they are automotive engineers that know exactly what they think is wrong with their truck and how to fix it.

50% of my job is driving trucks I need an A CDL for. Tacoma drives silent and smooth in comparison.

 

I like those styles due to their compact however I always end up screwing up the folding.

 

If you can wait, I imagine the 2019 Ranger will be on your short list?

 

You must be a newbie to this forum. I have been on here for 20 months and I can flat out tell you there have been almost weekly reports of someone complaining about the quality control and engineering of this truck. It seems like every 6 months Toyota is having some kind of recall on this truck. People are spending their hard earned money on their trucks and they expect Toyota to step up to the plate.

To say the majority of us don't have a problem is an under statement and only time will tell. What I see is that Toyota rushed this new designed truck to production. They should have taken another to year to work out the bugs. I mean leaking and howling diff's on a brand new truck with only 5000 miles. Come on man. I am not hating on Toyota but I am a bit disappointed with Toyota overall. I have a 2017 OR and the only problem I have had is the howling diff. I guess I have been pretty lucky up to this point; however; it is always on the back of my mind what could possibly go wrong next.

I plan to hold on to mind for another two maybe three years and trade it in. I am hoping Toyota steps up to the plate by then and correct all of these problems for the upcoming year trucks. If not, then I would just have to move on to something else.

The majority of Tacoma owners are not represented on TW. Keep that in mind.

Normal refresh/relaunch cycles happen at twice the Tacoma pace. Toyota had a very long run to get the kinks worked out on the 2nd gens. Now we get 3rd gens and expect perfection? That's what the warranty is for. As in "you're covered". Nobody should have as many issues as smitty, but there are outliers in every statistical group. If I cared more it could interesting to see a list of the shit he says is defective, with a column for shit he's actually told Toyota about, and another column for what Toyota has done about it. But just because his incessant complaining reminds us all how awful his Tacoma is, his posts shouldn't be considered as speaking for the greater 3rd gen community. Fact is, there are plenty of people that are perfectly happy with their 3rd gen trucks, me included.

 

Problem is Jakey the warranty isn't getting the job done on some of these issues like the howling diff. And the way Toyota has managed and executed the recalls has been a disaster in many cases.

 

I would like this 5 times if I was allowed to,. The factual evidence is that the 3rd GEN is far more advanced than the 2nd GEN in performance and Durability,Economy, regardless of what less than .50% of unhappy owners say about it.

 

wow 42k miles on it already, you must really enjoy driving your trouble free truck! you will probably easily clock over 100k miles without any issues other than normal maintainence, no problem. congrats

Jakey... that's cute. But you lodged the complaint for the diff while you were still under warranty, didn't you? Before the lift, right? Waaaaait. WTF am I saying. Toyota gave you a free extended warranty as a goodwill gesture. And didn't Toyota replace your CPS before you did it yourself? Any other recalls you're up for that Toyota mishandled for you?

 

Yet the problem still exists.
