Been mulling over a couple very popular tire choices in P265/75/R16 (yes I know there are many others), and wondering where most people stand, specifically on the subject of load rating. Ive owned the BFG Ko1's in the past and they were great, but I know my gas mileage suffered a lot. Which would you choose if these were the only options?

I made that choice based on my needs last month.... but that was based on MY needs/uses.

C rated unless you foresee putting the tires through a lot of abuse. E are só heavy.

Good question. The truck is not my daily driver. It is mostly a weekend ride, road trip vehicle, some serious off-roading (but not rock crawling), lots of logging roads, accessing remote areas etc.

I am looking for good traction and durability, with minimum loss of mileage and ride quality. On some level my inner "brodozer" tendencies would also like a more aggressive looking tire, but not at the expense of real capabilities.

Well, if i was gunna use it out in remote areas, and NOT have to worry about daily driving it.... id go E rated for the sidewall strength.

I have the 10 ply BFG KO2 and I wouldn't run anything else. I have them on my 2005 Tacoma and my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500.

I hear tracs have soft sidewalls in general. But peerunner, so the mall parking lot hasnt killed my C rated tracs yet.

E rated is overkill on 90% of these trucks IMO. Those tires are made for full size 1 ton trucks. So usually people only get them when the tire they want is only available in that load rating.

If you don't want a decrease in ride quality or mpg, I'd personally go with C-rated for your needs, unless you're really worried about the puncture protection of them vs the e-rated tires.

I tow a camper, a boat, and a flat bed trailer and who knows what's going to be on it with the Tacoma so I put the 10 ply on it. I had the 6 ply Goodyear Wrangler Authority that Walmart sells on it before the BFG's and when I swapped over I didn't notice a change in MPG from the 6ply to the 10ply.

This. I have E rated KO2s on my DD but I wheel enough that the fact they're overkill on-road is made up for by their reliability off-road. I put my last KO2 set through hell and they looked like hell when I got rid of them for new ones, but they never once let me down.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
I had the E Ko2s and now have the C Ko2s, no real change in mpg. Pretty much around 17mpg no matter the tire.
Easily got 50k miles out of the first set.

I had the same experience with my Ko1s. I would say the durability of the E-rated Ko2 is well established as excellent. Having said that, there are benefits to a lighter tire that I might consider as important as overall puncture resistance. Maybe my question is if anyone has had a bad experience with the C-rated Duratracs? If you own Duratracs, would you buy them again?

I've run both, I was not a fan of the duratracs as their wet weather traction was poor. I would spin them uphill on wet pavement in my 22re. They are also not well known for sidewall durability unlike the Ko2s. When I was faced with the same situation, I decided for the best of both and switched out my wheels to 17s and run 265/70R17 (same as 265/75R16) in C-load KO2s.

You can read about what I looked at here:

Thanks to the people who responded. I'm surprised the GY Duratrac had 2X the support of the BFG. I thought for certain it would be the other way around.

You know, I looked at those, but they don't seems to come in 265/75/16. Am I wrong?

Thankfully there is a ton of information offered on TW, and for my basically stock daily driver (off road 1x/month :fingerscrossed:) I finally decided on the C-rated Duratrac's mainly for the weight difference. My Duratrac's are 45 lbs and the KO2's would've been a whopping 53 lbs!

Both are terrible, with the Duratrac being ever so slightly better. Offerings from Cooper and Falken blow both out of the water.
