Not being a dick but more of just.... OK maybe I am being a dick.

    Regarding speeding tickets

    1. We're you speeding? If yes move on to number 2. If no, don't worry about it and carry on.
    2. Pay the fucking ticket. You were breaking the law. Quit trying to get out of it! :D

The point is that we all break the law. If the judicial department want to enforce said law they have to take the right steps to do so and there is a lot of debate whether they have taken those steps.....

Tldr; mail photo radar tickets to gramps. He wants them all paid

No. It much easier then that. You broke a published and post speed limit. If you did it knowingly and got caught, ...how you get served doesn't matter. You know you broke the law, now pay up. This bullshit of following some particular "procedure" should only come into play if you have absolute zero recollection of speeding for some odd reason. Take responsibility for your actions good and bad. Be an honest and forthright person.

Following arbitrary speed limits just because a sign says so is ridiculous. It's all just extortion anyway!

And this is why they do these tickets, because they know people will pay.

You have to be physically served the ticket, otherwise the ticket is not legit and you can toss it in the trash.
    End discussion.

Just out of curiosity, rather than to provoke an argument, (although we all know I'm not above provoking arguments :D) do you feel the same way about a short section of highway in Arizona where the speed limit changes after miles and miles of 65mph to 55mph for no comprehensible reason and where the highway is divided by some terrain perfect for parking a hidden enforcement vehicle that regularly issues tickets for 10mph over the posted speed limit?

Personally, I would be more inclined to feel as you do (probably not, but maybe :D) if municipalities' budgets were not dependent on collecting a certain amount of revenue in fines.
I had the same argument with my HOA. I disagreed strongly with a budget that was balanced only if a certain amount of fines were collected. The goal should be compliance not revenue.

I remember years ago when there was a drought and they enforced watering restrictions only to realize that they were not collecting enough money from water bills so they jacked the rates per gallon.

Red light cameras.... proven to decrease rather than increase intersection safety. They exist to generate revenue plain and simple.

Again, the goal should be compliance not revenue. I'm not convinced that that is ever the case.

I wish there were red light tickets at every intersection in Colorado. The worst place I've seen for red light runners... And the most dangerous violation.

I am completely on the side of traffic laws should be for safety... Or just actually teaching our stupid population how to drive.

The section of 285 and 470 that Morrison uses for revenue generation is complete bullshit. The speed limit on 285 is artificially low PURELY to increase revenue. Speed limits should be a guideline that takes into account the conditions. Continuously pulling people over for doing 10mph over a speed limit when everyone really does it and there are no incidents means the problem is with the speed limit sign not 95% of drivers.

Traffic enforcement like that should (and usually does) follow areas with crashes and actual issues and work to educate people and get crashes to stop happening. But departments like Morrison and Edgewater are about money and not fulfilling the morals of the job and only give all law enforcement a bad name.

And most department do not get much money from tickets. The municipality does, the dept gets a tiny cut. All officers can pull people over but normal departments have traffic units that are just one small specialty unit of many, it is their sole job to enforce traffic laws. (Think 5-10% of the dept). Departments like Morrison and Edgewater are black sheep to this common organization structure.

Time for me to go back in the woods.

    :D

Not sure about that. We'll see as time goes on, but I don't see myself buying more. More than likely will get some more KO2's when the time comes. Maybe give the falkens a chance.

To clarify, If you fully believe that you were not speeding at the time you the van took your picture, then by all means use every loop hole in the law to not pay for it. Or like Brett says toss the ticket out and hope that it doesn't come back to haunt you in the future. What I am saying, is if you choose to speed and you know you were speeding when that van took your picture be a man and pay the fine. You were finally caught this time for something you do knowingly every day.

In regards to how speed limits are set, that is done by city and state traffic engineers, not by local PD. Engineers review complaints/concerns, then collect information by conducting a study of the area in question, and then advise a local city or state council to make changes. For cities those councils approve or deny changes based on a multitude of parameters or excuses depending on how you want to look at it. Speed limits are not arbitrary changed to help fill the pocket books of a local PD. Could it happen with some corrupt individuals in various city government absolutely.

Curious are you referring to the twisting part west of 470 that goes up the hill or a different section of 285? That twisting part is a lower speed limit because the road design cannot handle the higher speeds. They really need to redo that first section of uphill to catch up with the rest of 285 further west.

You truly honestly think that highway engineers purposely designed and divided a highway to create a speed trap? I don't think so. Speed limits are set based on guidelines for the area and the terrain. I think the highway was built and the guidelines state that within this area the speed should not exceed 55mph due to certain reasons noted at the time the highway was built. Then once the highway was opened the the State Patrol realized it was perfect for them to catch people because most will not bother to slow down.

I do agree with you on what you stated above. I clarified my point in another post.

This is why I drive a Prius. I literally can't speed.

Another line item that hastens the ROI.

my 2 cents, you will never see a ticket unless we have a reciprocal agreement with Mizzou, otherwise I am with Gramps on most of this other than the out and out speed traps like Morrison runs through town.
