I'll see what I can do using the OBD fusion app once I load 1.02

Can't wait to blow away the festering pus sack of OEM code for some 1.02 goodness. :fingerscrossed: Today maybe?

Edit: Goddammit I need this tune badly. Just went out for a coffee and had to stab the gas three freakin times to get a miserable rev match on a 3-2 downshift. FACK

Luckily it's electronic this time and not snail mail. Taking the truck to work today in anticipation of 1.02

Also a question for @OVTune the ignition timing changes due to the heat and humidity you were dealing with yesterday, were they accomplished through air temp compensations or was it a base timing map change. We are entering into the best part of our year weather wise and it would be nice to feel the truck uncorked, and not saddled with big timing pulls if they aren't necessary.

@OVTune... I'm curious if you have personally driven a 3rd Gen Tacoma around town for a day or so? If you haven't, I think it would be great if you would.. as it would give you a first-hand feel for the quirky transmission performance we complain about. ALSO... if you cannot disable the "learning", would it maybe be possible to force the truck to "forget" what it already learned previously.. each time the engine is started up?

Just dropped the OV1.01 Taco off for it's 20,000mi "service" (kind of a joke, really..I'll have to go back around and recheck everything they do...). I'm half waiting for my service advisor to call me later and say "what did you do to this truck? it drives better than any Tacomas we have on the lot!!" hahaha

DAMMIT my dongle is at home

Mat probably won't even be vertical until at least 1200 Atlantic time anyway, so no biggie.

@OVTune As you continued to push the power up further on the 1.02 calibration, I'm sure many are curious about impacts from a reliability standpoint - esp. those still on the fence. When you say "safe power" can you elaborate on the safeguards in place within both the truck and the tune to ensure the added power (and overall changes to the ECU) aren't taxing the drivetrain to the point of overly premature wear?

I know from a 1.01 perspective, though there is more power, it certainly FEELS like it's so much easier on the drivetrain than stock so I can only imagine its helping if anything, but would be good to hear a technical perspective on this. I know you've talked around this in the past but perhaps a thorough response in this area would help appease the lurkers who are interested but are still concerned with negative impacts on Tacoma's legendary reliability...

Honestly, this isn't going to be tailored to those "on the fence" folks because no matter what the truck does (whether it's related to the tune or not), first thing they will blame is the custom tune. I've seen this on so many platforms, so many forums and discussion boards. If you're too worried, then just don't order it and you have nothing to fear.

Even behaviors that were there to begin with on stock tune, they will start pointing it out after flashing because they feel it has been "messed" with. Human nature.

I've been in Boston for the week and my 2017 Toyota Camry rental shifts like a dream compared to the Tacoma. And I'd say the Camry is nothing to really write home about...

I just got my Tacoma so for me I'm mostly making myself learn the truck as-is so that I can pinpoint the improvements once I flash the tune. I have a feeling feedback on 1.02 may push me over the edge to buy it early though :p

One more point I wanted to add, tunes like this are more accepted in the performance car market vs. a small truck. This is no performance vehicle by any stretch of imagination until forced induction kits are available, and still then the gearing isn't very advantageous. You hop into Genesis Coupe forums, Civic forums, Subaru WRX forums, Corvette forums, etc, this kind of thing is way more taken in.

We are just a different market. We didn't shop for this truck to go fast. We are honestly tuning this because it drives so piss poor and we need more refined "stock" feeling. The added performance for those select bunch that run 93 octane, that's a bonus.

So if the stock max HP is about 221 at the wheels with 87 and the latest tune seems to be at 219 max with 91 is the lower numbers because of the conditions like heat at time of dyno testing...? From what I see it looks like the HP and torque is lower in the RPM range making it more usable and combined with the other improvements to enhance drive-ability this looks to be winner. So if the first pull on stock is 221 HP and the first tune gives 8 more and the 1.02 gives another 8 shouldn't that be about 237 at the wheels..?
Let me state that I bought this tune for a bettter driving truck and any extra power is a bonus but trying to understand everything I'm reading...

Yes, it's because of the heat and humidity. The new tune will be stronger than previous.

No denying that logic whatsoever, my only point was that from my perspective my truck feels like its wearing much less with the tune vs. harming it and I'm sure there are folks who would benefit a great deal from the tune that would not normally be open to a custom tune unless they were a bit more knowledgable about potential impacts. Aside from my non-technical feeling about the tune, more detail could be helpful to others - based on several private messages I've received and responded to.

That said, it didn't hold me back and this is the best mod EVER for my truck! :)

1 - Unknown for California, but in using OBD to test emissions mine shows clear. Technically his tune has a disclaimer that this is for offroad use only... That said, if you did have an issue you always can flash back to your stock tune in <5 mins.
    2. Yes. Yes. And it's super easy
    3. Only person I know of who has the tune yet is the guy who was on the Dyno yesterday. Stay tuned (pun...) because this thread is likely to go nuts in the next few days as more folks get the latest (1.02)
