I put my name on the 'list' but just now read thru some of the old posts.

It should be pretty cheap to ship across the USA. It's surprising how inexpensive shipping is. For 100 bucks or so you can probably get this shipped anywhere you like within the USA.

I would suggest shipping all of the order into one port (or two max) and then shipping from there. You're getting enough interest to fill a container - the shipping price goes WAAAAY down if you can fill an entire container - they're either 20' or 40'. An entire container is something like $2,000 port to port (it's been a while since I've done it but prices have come down from when I did it a couple years ago). You can have the container delivered to your doorstep if you like. Or the easiest way is to find a freight forwarder - they will ship individual pieces for you once the container arrives.

I suggest that you get a per piece price from the mfg on a full container - they should be able to tell you how many will fit. The price would probably go down enough to cover shipping once stateside. Then everyone can have the tent delivered directly to where they want it. If it's a situation where they need to be picked up - with a buy this large - I'm afraid someone will be left holding a dozen tents in their garage for a couple of months. Or they're stuck in a warehouse and you're paying storage fees.

You should raise your $50 handling fee to $100 bucks and everyone would still get a smoking deal.

At the 'around $500' price point - I'm happy to put in 1/2 of that in advance to stay on the list. I can afford to risk 250 bucks.

I'm interested in the larger tent but will take a smaller one if that's what is available.

I'm guessing this buy you offered as a nice gesture is getting bigger than you had anticipated. Don't get in over your head! Here are my suggestions:

    • Get a FCL (full containter load)
    • Ship to one location - and drop ship from there
    • Charge more to handle the transaction
    • Take a deposit - you can tell everyone that you will hold the deposit until the FCL # is reached. If it's not reached in 30 days - give the $$ back. If the number is reached - the buy is on.
    • Once the tents have shipped (3 months or so out) - make people pay the 2nd 1/2. If they don't pay - you keep the deposit and sell the tent to someone else.
    • Once tents arrive - folks need to pay for shipping - give a time limit - again, if they don't meet it - you keep the $$ and resell their tents.
This kind of arrangement works for me - and I'm ready to put my $$ where my mouth is. For buying a quality tent at 25% of retail - I'm willing to take a little bit of risk - and make sure it's mostly hassle free for you.

Guitar guy - put it all on an excel spreadsheet. It will be a lot easier for you to keep track of - maybe you have already done that. Then you should be able to just cut and paste the spreadsheet into your posts.

Thanks for doing this! I've been wanting an RRT for a while but it's hard to commit to $2K for something you're not sure you'll like and wonder how much you'll actually use! This gives everyone a chance to check them out without too much risk. Mucho appreciated.

I dont really foresee that being a problem. If your taking any suggestions i would say figure out a set amount for a "first shipment" and see how it goes. Maybe take the advice of shipping to one place and split that into 3 East, Mid and West and see how that works legalistically. Being that your the one setting it up id ship one container to Austin. If thats the case I wouldnt be apposed to getting with all the texans from my area and grabbing a trailere to come to austin and distribute them according l

Alright guys. I posted the above so you can figure something out with people in your coast.

Ideally, there will be a few delegated people who will pickup/drop off shipments and members of that region can pay that person, or we can do what @slowboater said and we can all just get it personally shipped from one place.

I'm not in a position to buy one yet but I run a warehouse in SoCal that can receive all the guys SoCal tents and they can be distributed from here. Not sure what the current arrangement is but I assume they would all be palletized which isn't a problem.

Im going to be doing both of these.

Please guys, no more interested posts. From now on only summary posts. Please DM every person from your region and see if you can figure out a central drop zone so batch shipments can go there.

That's what I'm talking about! Can you give an idea of rough cost to ship a tent to NC (for example) or Seattle? Wouldn't it be easier if all tents were shipped in one container to one location and distributed?

Austin is a shipping hub. Should be able to distribute from there. Again - i don't think shipping costs will be prohibitive.

I like the idea of members helping members - but all it takes is for a couple of guys to flake and there's a shitstorm. And, Guitarguy is holding the bag.

My suggestion is to ship to one place - FCL. Then, if members want to aggregate shipping to save on cost (say shipping 10 tents to Perfect Tekniq or uncle bobby's garage) and pick up from there awesome. It saves GuitarGuy a lot of headache and risk.

    Just my suggestion.

    Again, willing to send deposit.

Sorry but I'm only willing to receive and open my doors for SoCal guys to pick up their tents at my warehouse. I wont be shipping any of them. Just receive. I guess distribute was the wrong word to use.

That's awesome - we have our SoCal hub.

Since you're in the industry - not asking you to do it - could you give a rough idea of shipping price for one tent to anywhere'sville USA? Not holding anyone to a price - just curious.

Get the tents to one location (Austin) and then we can figure out sub locations - for example I can work with PNW folks to find a place to receive and pick up. I'm in Vancouver BC - and would drive to Seattle (for example) to pick up. I'm sure someone in Seattle has space and would take deliver of a few tents. Heck, maybe we have a tent mounting party and 1/2 dozen of us put the damn things on our trucks at the same time.
