Yes, a hub is expensive to repair. Check both sides while your tools are out.

 

I just did my clutch about two months ago, we used the bread technique and it worked marvelously. Less of a mess as well.

 

Yeah my bad... things are crazy at work and I'm trying to research in between jobs. I got things confused. Truck hasnt had one issue in the 3 years I've had it, and both code and axle seal go same day. I do appreciate all the input so far.

 

tntacomaguy was asking about a code. Bulldogs129 gave some possible scenarios including O2 sensors in the $100-$150 range.

tntacomaguy said that's much better than the $1000+ he was hearing. Bulldogs129 thought that was bit much for the engine code remedy.

....and my point was to clarify that while the hub leak and code came up in the same comment your advice and cost estimate was directed at the hub, not the CEL. So the $1,000+ was not a cost estimate to address the P0420 code. Make sense?

 

I replaced the alternator in early May when I returned all the wiring in the truck to OEM cut out the alarm, and did Big 3 upgrade. Voltmeter in the dash was reading about 13.8V at night with A/C on and headlights, radio etc. I thought it was a little low. Then yesterday, my alternator took a dump. Replaced alternator, and tested it with my scantool - it said it still wasn't charging. So I replaced the 80 amp alternator fuse and moved the alternator output wire to the side post using a gold plated side terminal lug. Problem solved - now reading 14.2-14.4V. I guess current was just backfeeding into other components directly since the ends were touching where they connected to the terminal?

Also had to relocate coolant overflow bottle to pass. side fender, seeping now because the hole is on the bottom. Battery hold down prevented the reservoir from seating far down enough on the mount to clear the hood.

Was in Denver for the day before my move. Smoke sucked. Couldn't see the Rockies!!!

 

Threw on a pop-n-lock on the tailgate. Super easy install, only took a couple minutes.

 

Did you ever figure out your clinometer?

 

Most of the welding's done now, although I'm still going to box the rear sections. AND my parts came in today!

Did a drain and fill on the radiator, used AutoZone available coolant. Should be ok for now. Placebo effect- car feels better, smoother ride ‍♂️

 

No, work's been a nightmare but I'm off Friday and then all of next week so getting in that dash and answering your questions is tops on my to-do list. Thank you again for your help with it.
