Alright I have a 2003 taco 3.4 4x4 it has around 189k I was playing around the other day and out of no where it started running bad, it would barely move under is own power, sometimes die while trying to idle would have to floor it to get it to move, shaking very bad. I took my scan tool and it was po340 camshaft position sensor so I changed that. it runs alittle better now but not much, and the CPS code came back even with a new one, and when taking the header temp the drivers side was like 450 and the passengers side was like 250, please help fix or point me where to look.

Careful with the "please help" thread titles.

Maybe state your issue as succinctly as possible in the title so people know when they read it.

Have you checked your timing marks to make sure the cam timing is all good? You can do it without taking anything off except for the upper timing cover I believe. Notice any smoking / low coolant in the radiator?

Check cam timing sounds like a cam jumped timing.

    Yes?

if the code reappears after the new cam position sensor was installed there are a couple of possibilities. Just because it is "new" does not mean it is good. "new" stands for "never ever worked". You might have to re replace the sensor and if it still pops the code then the signal is not getting to the PCM. I suspect that there was never anything wrong with the original sensor and you have a wiring issue. Disconnect the battery and take the glove box out and pull the PCM connector off and cycle it a few times on and off the PCM. Reconnect the battery and start her up and see if the code comes back. If the code comes back you are going to have to see if there is an open or short in the harness from the sensor connector to the PCM harness connector.

I have heard of, but have never seen the portion of the cam that the sensor "senses" having physical damage and as I write this I think it was on a 4 cyl and many years ago.

I don't have anyway to check the timing unless you can do it without a timing light and it won't run well enough to make it to a shop to check it, I don't have a repair manual

Disconnect and cycle a few time meaning try and start it? With the battery disconnected trying to figure out what you mean by cycle.

Cam timing you check by lining up the marks. No timing light needed.

If I had all the time back from "new" parts that didnt work... always, always electronic sensors, multi function relays, alternators and almost always from China. The guys at my local O'Reillys know that when I bring something back it is truly junk... they can only sell what they are allowed to sell.

What has my mind blown is i will have to feather the gas to get it up to high rpm than it will run fine but when i let it down it goes back to running rough and not wanting to stay running

Calm down and just check the things we're suggesting. Higher rpm's cam mask the problem by shear momentum of the engine.

P0340 is a CPS circuit code. Likely a wire/connector problem but not a 100% sure thing.
