I beleive that what was mentioned was that if you get a TSB flash from the dealer you must resend the stock tune to get a working tune from OV. OP said this was due to the trans and engine ecu's remarrying. Not necessarily that you require a TSB.

He's updating the ECU map which likely the same regardless of version but since he's not worked with the TCU file yet, that would be different.

My truck was built cinco de mayo so hopefully I have the latest update.
I dont like visiting the dealer, my local Toyota dealer usually makes a day out of anything.

Maybe OVtune will clear things up (for a 2nd time maybe) regarding the updates on these trucks

The latest TSB has been out since November so if yours was made this May, definitely has the latest version.

When everyone receives their dongles you can verify what update you have on your truck by using PCM Flash before reading your trucks file. I think its the retrieve information button on PCM Flash. It will say OB03 or OB02 or something along those lines, you'll be able to tell once you do it.
Visit OVTunes website under About and download the instructions and everyone should be able to figure it out from there.

If you don't have the latest update which is 03 I recommend taking it in to service department and request newest update before reading file and sending it to OvTune.

My 2017 Tacoma was purchased in October of 16. Never brought it back to the dealer since I owned it. The tune worked fine for me.

This is true. Just be sure that if your are tuned and you go to a dealership, and they do update your truck you DON'T flash the tune back to your ecu. You must send OV the latest Toyota flash so he can update that one. That being said, some folks who like going to the dealership are probably better off getting their trucks updated by the dealership, then sending the ecu file in for the OV tune.
    I hope that makes sense

Understood. Trying to have the rest of the people that have the 02 file updated to 03 before doing the tune. Even though some people do not take their vehicles to the dealer the majority will take it in for a specific issue/warranty and the dealer will install 03 when least expected. Might as well have the newest shizz from Toyota and the OVTune now, atleast thats my thought process.

I've been following and reading this since page 1! Thank you to those who have contributed!! Thank you OVTune for this product!!!
Before I pull the trigger on ordering, because the learning can not be disabled, how frequently does this have to be re-flashed to to the ECU? I read a couple post somewhere in here, maybe 100 pages ago, people were saying every 100/200Mi. I doubt it's that frequently, but how long will it take before the truck out learns the effects of the tune? @OVTune

It won't outlearn the tune. The changes to timing, throttle, etc., don't "go away" and actually from what I can tell those pieces have gotten better and more predictable after 800 miles on 1.01. What it relearns (at least in my case) is some of the weird transmission behavior - specifically for me the main thing it tries to learn is to slowly inch down the shifts to 5th and 6th to the point where it's shifting way to early. The delayed downshift is still there (again speaking of 1.01 release) but the smoothness of the throttle input prevents that harsh feeling when it does downshift. We don't have any reviews of 1.02 yet, but allegedly the shift maps have been reduced from 16 to 10 which should limit some of this variability but only time will tell.

Most people will be able to flash their truck, enjoy the hell out of it and forget about reflashing until OV comes out with new updates.

Even though the busy shifting stuff returns, I'd be willing to bet that if these trucks ran like 1.01 from the factory there wouldn't be as much frustration around the wonky transmission because the shifts are SO much smoother and your FOOT actually does what you expect it to (press pedal, it shifts down smoothly...what a concept!?)
