    I see. I think it is in bad taste to erect memorials to people involved in a civil war-on either side. I am southern born, have lived in the south my entire life, and I feel zero attachment to any civil war monument. I see them as divisive today as they always were. There are states with confederate memorials who weren't even states during the civil war. If memorials are erected to mark battlefields, so be it. But memorials to individuals don't seem like a good idea to me. I also don't understand why folks fly a confederate flag alongside an American flag. They are like oil and water historically speaking. Neither side wanted the other to exist. But, not everyone cares about what things actually mean or how it makes others feel, or how history actually played out. They feel they can do or say anything they wish without considering the emotions those symbols or words evoke.
