Dude that just sucks.

 

Hahaha I know. Things will get better in 8 months. Just looking for ways to improve life now. Especially because I average 60 hour weeks so a lighter commute is welcome

For others seeing this- that is a hard drive with multiple interchanges, and a line at each. Brutal traffic. If he moves closer to work, housing get exponentially more expensive...

 

The last place I lived. About half the distance from where I am now was 3000 a month for 790 square feet. Or I could live in compton in the same size place for about 2200. You guys know about compton right?

 

As a background so I don't sound insane...

My fiancee is in SC for a grad program for 8 months. My company has an office there. Tried to transfer, but it is small and had no openings. They offered me Charlotte though. It's not worth quitting and getting a new job there since it's such a short time, but it also sucks being so far from work now.

Reason I can't move closer to work in CA is that I had to get a really expensive surgery this summer. I'm currently paying it back at the same rate I was paying rent before. So I moved back in with my folks for a few months to save money since I can't afford rent in LA.

I am sure you have looked at housing/mortgages here, right? It's like "living the dream" out here.

 

Yeah! We are aiming for Denver, Dallas, Charlotte, Phoenix, Austin, or Pasadena (LA) when she is done. We will see.

 

Charlotte is a great city. My $ .02

 

Seems really nice! I think Dallas is our top choice because we have friends there. And we can afford a house pretty soon!

 

Cost of living in SC will make you happy.

 

We almost went from SE Michigan to Dallas. I had been laid off in MI and accepted an offer in TX, but ended up taking another job in Philadelphia.

 

Which is why you and I live in SC.

 

So if I do move out there. Will be doing 12 hours of driving a day lol. 12 to ABQ, 12 to Fort Smith, then 12 to Greenville. Leave Friday Morning some weekend... Back to work on Monday.

Drove to San Diego, just a couple months ago. Exact same route.

 

How was that drive? I'm thinking it's doable. Leave like 5 am friday, get to ABQ around 6pm and hit bed immediately. Same thing each following day

 

My in- laws did it in my truck. They loved it; want to do it again! Very hot through Needles though. They also stayed in Ft. Smith and ABQ, too.

Do not do the I-10 route- going through the fat part of TX. You will want to gouge your eyes out. Also, I did Denver to CLT this summer. I- 70 east of Denver, sucks.

With the time zone changes, in-laws arrived in SD mid afternoon. You may need to adjust for the opposite- depending on what time you need to arrive.

 

Haha on the 10 you might have somebody else gouge your eyes out.

I'd go I-40 the whole way. I drive through needles all the time. One of the hottest places I've ever been. That is what AC is for

From Nation Ford High School football stadium, you can see uptown CLT. I am less than 3 miles from Home Depot, in CLT/Steele Creek, lol!

 

Truth. My battery died there! 117 degrees that day- and my in laws are in their 70's! fortunately they got help quickly. They bought a Walmart battery. When I flew to SD- I immediately bought a 27f Northstar.
