Help JD ---->AVH-P4200DVD

A buddy of mine just bought one. I love it. Anybody else have it and have opinions?

I found one for $399 with free shipping. But what else do I need? I need that scoshe kit or whatever right? I'm not audio savoy. And how do I run my iPhone to it? I know a wire plugs into the back but what wire? Where do I get it and the scoshe kit?

I want a long enough wire to run it out to my center console. Thanks!

 

A friend of mine upgraded from the 4100 to the 4200 the other week and its sweet. You will need to get the ipod cable which runs about $40 I think. Just need the dash kit and a wire harness to plug into the stock harness, so you don't have to splice into anything. If you wanna watch DVD's while driving you will need a relay to wire it up, so that part is bypassed. Cheapest place for the ipod cable and dash kit would be ebay or Amazon. My friend got his stuff off amazon.

Yea if your lucky it will come with the dash kit. My friend got his that way. If not just search for tacoma stereo harness. Also if you look on youtube there's a video of how to do the bypass for the DVD using the relay.

 

I'm not sure if I can install it myself. Is it easy? How much would a shop charge?

 

It's easy. The wires are color matched and have writing written on them for correct hookup. Not sure what shops would charge.

I havent seen the bluetooth module at work (its an addon). The steering wheel controls require an addon as well. The one Im most familiar with is the PAC SWI-PS and it works great.

Random question....if a cop sees you driving down the road with your DVD player going ( if I'm going to the beach the other people in the truck might be watching a movie )...is he going to write me a ticket? I had thought about getting a double DIN dvd player but that was the main thing holding me back.

 

YES. Be very careful with this, both in driving and with legality reasons. If this is a mod you want (bypassing the DVD so it works while driving...cause with stock install it WONT), PLEASE BY RESPONSIBLE.
