Beyond the stated highway numbers, how much real world difference is the 4 cyl vs. 6 cyl in terms of cost savings?

When I initially purchased my 4 cyl, I had second thoughts (and still do) due to lack of power, but I figured I get an extra day of driving before I need to fill the tank (around 34 miles round trip to work) on my 4 cyl than a 6 cyl. That's just a guess, tho.

Also, if I was gonna get into a 6 cyl, I'd want a DCLB, 4x4, larger tires, etc., so the extra up-front cost, payments, and maintenance would be much higher. I also have to constantly remind myself that the purpose of a truck is to do work, even if it's a DD. If I wanted a faster mode of travel, I would have purchased a Mustang.

So you have to ask yourself two questions, "What do I really want and what am I willing to pay to get it? and "What am I willing to concede if I can't afford to buy everything I want?"

Sell it and get a V6.

Still not sure why they even make 4cyl trucks. The V6 Tacoma is barely capable of much let alone a 4cyl

I average 19-21mpg with my 2.7L 5sp; fine by me. I've gone over 30,000 fun miles in 10 months of driving with this 4 banger.

haha I was thinking the same thing. The OPs concern of "Oh god I bought x and the mileage isn't much worse than y" is a conversation I've had with myself comparing the taco to a Chevy 1500 with a modern 5.3L. More power, more capability, same fuel economy... mid-size V6 was definitely a mistake for me, should have gone bigger.

I like my little pretend truck. It looks cool and works for me right now.

One of these days I'd love to own a diesel. 4500lb payload capacity? YES PLEASE!

6 second split on 1/8 seems fair to ask. I'm a reasonable guy. Gotta be 500 dollars worth of bolt-ons that will make that happen. :)

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
you might get an ok turbo for $500... but that will actually just make you a little slower, cuz it will just have to ride shotgun with you
