I was looking over some reviews of the 3rd generation Tacoma and saw this one with the engine rough idling. Skip to the 5 minute mark.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal for the new engine? Thanks!

Tacoma's have always been on the loud side at idle, sounds pretty normal to me.

Ok, is that a characteristic of the atkins cycle?

I must be too use to my '05 since it doesn't idle like that at all.

My 4.0L Ford Ranger sounded like a diesel sometimes but Damn that engine had great throttle response and low end Torque. Our 2016 4runner has great throttle response and low end grunt too with the Toyota 4.0L. The idle is not as noisy on our 4Runner as it is on my third gen. I have to be careful when I get in the 4Runner similar to the Ranger it is easy to give the pedal a little too much and the tires chirp. It pisses off the Mrs.

I'm so used to having to mash the pedal in the third gen it throws me off in the 4Runner.

I did this with my dad's 3.0L Outlander. It has 200XXX+ miles on it, brand new tires, and only produces something like 200 horses. Its by no means a powerhouse, but it delivers power where it counts and that's more important.
