    Mostly just by the look of it is how I would tell. The steel rims will have thinner metal faces/spokes whereas alloy rims tend to have thicker faces/spokes (thicker in terms depth not width). Most aftermarket rims people buy are going to be alloy. Anything higher grade than the SR5 model will have alloy rims stock.

    "You are correct that the 165lbs limit is the Dynamic limit. It has a static limit of 600lbs. You should be good to use the rack with 2 not too heavy people."
    Someone came in to work at Yakima today. Cool, my solution works!

    Searched C'list country wide for a Yakima Bedrock system - found some in Colorado. :-(
    Broke down & ordered from Amazon, used credit card points up to get $300 system for under $80. Better than C'list pricing.
