@OVTune. Curious as to why all aren't experiencing this shudder given the code is the same for everyone? What is the specific root cause for the folks experiencing it?

This is is the difficult thing to figure out.
I do know it's caused by Toyotas ignition control.
I do know ignition is calculated by crank v cam position v error rates.
I do know Toyota has an issue with crank position sensors.

That's as close as I'm able to pinpoint it.

I have the same feeling about the trans wanting to shift to early still, the rest of the tune feels great. Out of curiosity (and not trying to be snarky in any way) but @OVTune have you had a chance to drive a truck around? I'm curious if it would help you understand the feeling we have about the shifting. Personally I have never had a vehicle shift like this truck and as much as I think I would understand it if someone told me that it shifts early, without feeling it, I would have had a different concept about it's driving habits and never thought it to be this quirky. It's honestly bipolar at best. Just curious if driving one around may change your ideas going into programming this thing from the standpoints of eliminating maps or the whole "learning process" that Toyota claims. To me it seems like Toyota has one good map and 15 retarded ones and no matter how I drive the thing it always seems to learn itself into shifting early and shifting often. Again, not trying to be condescending or demeaning at all with what you've done cause it has been utterly astounding with the gains that you have made in driveability but I am curious if things can be further refined in regards to the trans issues. Lol, I'd chip in for a week's rental for you on a 2017 tacoma that culminated with a dyno run

I am bias based on my experience, but it seems that anyone who had a Tacoma produced before this spring should invest $100 in a bit of insurance with that sensor. Mine wreaked so much havoc - I just hope it wasn't enough to cause long-term damage over the first 10k miles I owned it. Mine was shuttering a LOT before replacement, running super-rich, idling 2x what it did afterward... but Toyota of course said it was all in my head and there was nothing wrong with my truck since no CELs. Idiots.

I enjoy my truck now and I'm sure many others who have and will continue to take advantage of this mod will find themselves swapping sides from the Turds to the Unicorns soon enough...

    @OVTune
if I understand correctly I think what you are saying is that due to variences in the CPS and with some of the CPSs teetering on the verge of being out of the acceptable variance or already outside the acceptable variance, the tune is experiencing this issue due to it being more aggressive with the ignition timing. Whereas with the stock tune not being as aggressive, its able to tolerate the out of bounds variance. That basically it in a nut shell?

I hope this ends up being me. I'm just can't get off my wallet until the shifting is more sorted than it sounds like it is still with 1.02....that is my #1 complaint by far.

Agree! I was experiencing the shudder as well before I had the CPS replaced due to the re-call. After replacement no shuddering whatsoever! Ran like a different truck.

No worries, post like this is not snarky or condescending, this helps me to target what to do next.

I have driven one but no over long periods. On the dyno I watched how it shifted in D with various amounts of throttle and it *seemed* to shift like a normal car. Between 2000 to 3000 quickly.

it's kind of difficult to gauge what everyone is asking for.

The transmission learning and control maps are simply hard to tune. To really perfect shifting I would need someone who would be willing to drive on many different shift parameter maps. Because I cannot disable the learning. When I do the truck simply doesn't shift at all.

Being unable to disable the learning leaves to me just trying to tailor the learn to maximize " best" shifting, but the complexity is compounded because every torque map uses raw numbers that simply have no meaning.

as insane as it sounds it's the difference of less than 1* advance on the table in certain low load areas. Areas where the difference in ignition is 0.5* and I feel the CKS issue is compounded when the ECU is trying to differentiate a half degree through a crank wheel / sensor giving bad readings.
Fixing it is adjusting toyotas OEM maps that I normally don't have to touch.

anyways guys I'll be back later to get anyone with the issue sorted out.

My shifting seems fine, drive like grandma it shifts like grandma. Drive like a teenager, it shifts high in rpm range. Normal driving to me it shifts around 2-3k, if im lazy driving it shifts lower. I just let it do its thing. The BIGGEST improvement to me with this tune is the hesitation is gone when I do want to give-er-hell. Now it just gets up and goes, shifting is responsive, throttle is responsive. The hunting for gears thing on the freeway is what its designed to do to maximize fuel efficiency. If anyone thinks their gas mileage is bad and shifting is to blame, ask a 2nd gen guy what his gas mileage is and you might not mind the shifting as much.

Only thing I can say to this is that while the shifting is still weird... the actual quickness and smoothness of the shifts makes a big difference. It's not really so annoying now as it is weird how fast it upshifts, but downshifts aren't delayed. Press the gas a bit, and you're downshifting smoothly. The other changes make the shifting less of a bother b/c it's so smooth... and all of the other drivability improvements are worth the price of admission!
