Hey all, my headlights are really cloudy and have a random short somewhere. So im looking to replace them and am curious what everyones thoughts are on doing some new OEM headlights vs a retrofit setup?

    Thank you for the help!

Check out @LSC15, he makes retrofits. His old truck is actually the header of this website.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for and your budget. If you want to convert to HIDs, then yeah, go retrofit, but definately don't do the HIDs or LEDs in the oem type housing as that light sucks and blinds other drivers.

Honestly, though, I would look into an LED light bar or pods if you want to start throwing serious lumens down the trail. Good clean oem housings are really all you need for the road, but off road, a lightbar you can aim them where you need the light.

Def some good points here. I retrod my headlights myself and the process was pretty easy. At the end of the day they are bright as hell compared to my halogen lights. When on the trail though, nothing beats a roof light bar. I have a 50 inch on there so it kills it anyway, but yea man on trail you will need some additional lights if you want to be relatively safe with night driving if you drive with speed.

No, I haven't. I never said they weren't better, or brighter, either. Just that for my use, the halogens are perfectly adequate. And if you need light for offroad, led bars are by far your best bet.

I want retrofits BAD! But until I'm able to spend $600 on retro fits, this light bar with the wiring, relay and harness came out to less than $85, and that's too good a deal to pass up, for off roading improvement.

if you do it yourself then you can save half of that. Don't need OEM housings as the reflectors will not be used anyway.

I'm the owner, and I don't care. If you want me to place it anywhere else, you are more than welcome to give money, then I'll instal it where you'd like to.

we here on TW get a discount from The Retrofit Source (kit can run around $260), housings I got for under $90.

there are numerous posts on how to properly do a retrofit, but it involves heating the housings in the oven on low temp for a short period of time. this loosens the sealant/adhesive that holds the outer lens on.
