Hi, I'm looking at buying a 17 or possibly waiting on an 18 and I'm looking for a section where people have shared what kind of deals they have gotten buying the 17s especially around now that the 2018's are going to come out soon. I thought I had seen a thread somewhere where people discussed how much they got theirs for etc. I'd like to gauge if I'm getting the best deal. Also, I thought I saw a link before where I can actually look up how much net would be for a dealer too. I'm wondering how much under invoice I can push on a truck I'm looking at, because let's face it, the dealer could be telling me whatever price they want for bet right?

I saw the msrp thread, with the spreadsheet...awesome for someone to be cool enough to take their valuable time to put all that together. I've always just bought private party to save some coin so this is my first dealer experience. Even a link you could shoot me to help with the dealer process would be great!!

For some details...where I'm at now is I asked the salesman if he just gets a set amount per vehicle or %. He just makes a set amount per vehicle so that feels good to know that he's not making a percentage and doesn't has a reason to not give me the best deal. He told me invoice on the 2017 DCSB TRDOR is $34,867 and that their net would only be about $1000 below that so they couldn't go under invoice originally. I held off and he said they could go $400 below that so $34,467 plus taxes etc. Is that about all I can squeeze you think? Anyone think that they'll get more aggressive or maybe that Toyota will do an incentive as the 2018 drop gets closer?

Thanks in advance and please offer any advice you can. I know I'm from the outside looking in here so anything, even just a link would help. I've searched and only saw the MSRP and invoice spreadsheet. Thanks again I appreciate your time.

Thanks. From what I hear, their net is only about $1000 less than invoice, and if a dealer goes below invoice on a Tacoma it's usually only ~4-500... anyone know if that's true?

What was the original sticker price of the truck they are offering to you?

I was in El Cajon Toyota last week and did the Costco thing. Dealer best price was 32300 pluses tax and license which was 500 over invoice. Looks like the 18s will about $480 more then the 17s because of the tss so I think I will wait and just get 18. Will get the 480 back on resale in 5-7 years. Easier to sell a 18 then a 17 5 years from now.

If you're at $400 to$500 below invoice, that's a pretty fair deal. But you could probably do better on a 2017 at this point in time, depending on where you are located at. And negotiate toward the end of the month when some dealerships are trying to hit their numbers.

When the dealer tells you their "net" is just $1k below invoice, their leaving out other big pieces of their pie. Manufacturer to dealer performance incentives. Dealerships will technically take a "loss" on a vehicle if you happen to find that one or two dealerships who are very close to their performance incentive numbers but haven't hit them yet, and the end of month is fast approaching.

Invoice or below on a Tacoma is good. If you want to run all over town or the country to save a couple hundred bucks, you probably can. My time is worth more than that.

I cant remember the last time there was any incentives on a Tacoma. You are not going to save anything by getting a 17. Why not just wait for the 18 with TSS?

    1. Net on a Tacoma is actually around $600 below invoice.
    2. Toyota doesn't do stair step programs... you're thinking of Ford/GM/Nissan
    3. There are only TWO instances of there EVER being incentives on Tacomas, there was a $500 rebate nationwide back in 2011 for a single month. And more recently there was a $1k rebate for a couple weeks but it was specific to the mid-Atlantic region. So I wouldn't expect any incentives on 2017s....

Technically take a "loss", no quotes needed lol, they ACTUALLY take losses all the time.

Tacomas sells itself and no incentives. Shortbed offroad models are swept up fairly quickly also.

For sure. That's why I was looking to gauge how much room there is. There's not a post where people have shared what they got their 17's for? I couldn't sworn I saw something like that. And absolutely, if it's only going to be a couple hundred dollars, I'm not going to bother...after all, time's the only thing we can't get more of, right? But yeah if they're going to be just about the same price given that the 18s have the tow package included instead of an up charge on the 17s, plus have the safety sense I'll probably just wait for the new model.

I always thought so, around here though not so much. They've had several stragglers on the lot for a while now so I figured I can bob and weave a bit lol

Nice. I agree. Thanks. What's the costco thing? You can give them an actual vehicle right down to the options and stuff and they'll do the leg work for you?

They work deals with local dealerships. I tried that route and the dealer would only sell me a truck with some "dealer options" that tacked back on the big discount that Costco negotiated. They had you buy their upgraded alarm system and tinted windows..... I said no thanks.

Best bet is to decide what truck you want (options and whatnot), then contact 25 dealerships via email telling them what you want. I'd be a little flexible on options that don't change price (like color). Then have them compete against each other for your business. Don't go to a dealership until they have the truck in hand and you are ready to buy. They will try to get you to "come in, so we can talk. Let's get it done!" but don't fall for it. You either got a deal for me or you don't.

If financing, I'd have all of that already set up with an outside source.

Exactly it... Costco puts you in touch with a dealership, they no haggle you on price for everything you want and take it or leave it. Sticker on the TRDOR I wanted was 39.5, Costco in my area was 37.2? I think. I was just about ready to do it, but the dude dragged his feet (not Costco's fault) and I ended up getting the exact same truck for less. Elsewhere.

But I also bought my WRX through Costco and it was by far the cheapest

Thank you. I think at this point I'm going to wait until Oct for an 18 then do what you said unless it's a smoking deal on a 17 or the one I drove from their lot that wasn't the color I wanted.
