This is just a thread about all those times that we're getting rooked!!

    And here's only a few examples -

I used to work at McDonalds (9 LONG years) and I know what the chicken nuggest look like. Today was the first time in years that I've ordered nuggets (10 pieces). What the hell happened to them? They SHRUNK!!! They're only 3/4 the size of what they used to be.

My family used to go to the Outback (steakhouse) every birthday, so probably 3-4 times a year. That is....until their 1/2 rack of ribs shrunk in size by like 5". Can't they find larger pigs? We haven't been back there since.

Levi jeans..... Like most everything else in the world (so it seems), quality has slacked off. What the hell happened to these things? They're not nearly as 'thick' as they used to be and they start ripping at the back pockets after only 1 year ...(or less?). I still have Levis from back in college - and that was 20 years ago!! Yeah, they WERE that good! Not anymore....

    Rant on!!!

This will probably sound silly Janster, but cereal boxes are terrible now. You can't even re-close the top without ripping the cheap cardboard.

Pants, I wear Carhartt's. Pretty thick and have lasted at least 3x as long as Levi's.

You will find a lot of things have shrunk in this economy. Remember 1/2 gallon's of ice cream? What are they now, 1.5 quarts?

I play baseball, and use to you good buy some batting gloves and they would last you two seasons, now they've jacked the prices up to about 20 to 30 dollars for a pair of batting gloves!! Sucky thing is they don't even last one whole season!

Dunno bout ya'll but the price of milk a gallon in NC is almost 4-5 dollars!! Outrageous!! I didn't know the demand for cows was down!!

Well I agree with you on the quality of items dropping. It is actually done on purpose. There is actually a technical term for it in the business world though I can't remember the name. Using cheaper materials allows them to save money up front then it wears out quickly and you need to replace it creating more income for them. Most electronics are actually designed on purpose to fail after a few years.

Strictly from a business sense, it's smart.

Food portions getting smaller is also about making money. Inflation has made everything more expensive. In order to keep the menu price the same and still make a profit, they must make the portions smaller. Inflation sucks.

Honestly though, have you seen the size of the average ass walking down the street. It's probably a good thing portion sizes are shrinking. The smaller portions you're ranting about are still 2, 3, or even 4 times the recommended portions.

Janster, you sure the Levi's don't just seem cheaper now due to too many McNuggets and McRibs?....

Just kidding, i know exactly what you mean. Hell, i got a pair of 'name brand' boots delivered to my door, and the eyelet pulled off when i went to cinch them tight the first time i tried them on. I had to argue with the people about getting them to eat the shipping charges for sending me that crap.

Come to think of it, i think the little saucers were smaller the last time i bought a box of Quisp.

X2 on the Outback Steakhouse! Last time in I ordered a steak, and that was all I fricken got...A piece of steak on a plate! No vegetables, no potatoes...nothing!!! The least they could have done was stick a piece of parsley on there!!! I'll never go back.
And what about all the fricken packaging now days where they could have packaged the object inside in a package half the size? What a fricken waste!!!
This is a great rant thread you started Janster. On the Rantomatic Rant Scale I'm gonna have to go with a point total here of 9.5 for originality, artistic execution, and level of performance. The thread was very well written...paragraph placement looked outstanding, and periods/commas were in order. All in all, the rant looked very solid...great job!

Dude, so much shit has changed over the years, its not funny. I'm only 21 and I've watched things go to shit.

I hate that jeans companies feel the need to put stupid tears in the pants. I bought a few pairs I thought had no tears, even tried them on, only to discover they had them after I took the tags off. That shit kills the life expectancy of jeans. Now every pair of jeans I have has huge holes in them.

And shoes! God damn! I bought a pair of New Balances, cheap ones, not expensive stylish ones, and the freakin sole on them was gone in 6 months. I guess I do too much walking.

How about Oreo cookies? I remember when they actually had cream in the between the two cookies. Now you have to buy double stuffed ones to get anywhere near what the old ones were. And two boxes I got recently, as soon as you went to go pick up the cookie, the fugger just crumbled! WTF!

Or Dunkin Donuts? They used to have icing on top of the donut, now you could miss it!

And I agree with the emo kids comment. Fuckin skinny jean wearing motherfuckers.

I haven't bought Levis in years for the same reason. Now, even if I wanted a pair, I can't even buy 501's in the store. I've got to buy them on-line and have them shipped. Add $8 shipping to a pair of jeans that already cost $60 and it's not worth it. I used to get them from K-Mart for $20!

Don't even get me started on coffee! It's f-ing bean water, for Gods sake! Used to be able to get a cup (free refills) for a dime!

Keep 'em coming! Hey, I'm a consumer!! I wanna get my moneys worth. I work hard for it!!

At work, I owned about 2 pairs of Doc Martins steal toe boots that were about $250 each. Each pair lasted a good 5 years. They were awesome!! So, when you find something that works - you stick with it, right?
I went to the same store and requested the same pair (so I thought). Hmmm...only $100. THat's weird. I bought them....and THEY SUCKED!!!
They hurt like hell and never did wear in. I think I tossed those suckers after 1 year!! I was bored one day and sent an e-mail to DocMartin website asking, "WHERE did the old quality boots go???"
Never did hear back from them. :D

I understand why they do it. Businesses can't seem to find any other ways of saving money, so they're giving us less quantity & quality for the same amount of money. I'd personally rather pay an increase in cost for the same quality/quantity that I've grown to expect - instead of getting something and being totally disappointed - thus changing my attitude about a businesses reputation. Disappointment in a given product does not = repeat customers.
